significant paragraph which says president lowell of har vard university was most eloquent and most intense when he talked to me a little while ago about the ab surditv of judging the education of a college graduate by the number of credits he had-certificates of buttons pushed says harvard crimson edi torially the test of a college product is not what has he done but what has he become if the true test is whether a man has devedoped or not ; while in cortege if the college product is in the tang igle form of human charactei and ser vice as chancellor brow of new york university recently said then it is possible to draw some conclusions concerning the much-discussed extra curriculum activities someone re marked not long ago that a g ad l e turns to see classmates not to fresh his memory if any oi horace mr gavit says that the s tuden s becom ing depends on the kind of men he comes in contact with . • • . it is possible then to see some jus tification of such activities in i day was big time for u b folks moving-up day was ushered into university life at u b for the first time this year and a signal success the great occasion proved to be teck theater was the scene of the newest college celebration and a throng of a thousand students gath ered to witness the exercises which marked the transition period when the seniors began the retirement process from active office in the life of the uni versity irving b templeton was in charge of the arrangements and acted as chairman his enthusiasm in that office giving the gathering a considerable infusion of the pep needed to make matters of the kind go with the req uisite swing the cheer leaders who had to make triple encores will vouch for this the programme was a lengthy but not tiring one the occasion was be un with a march by the students in comic costume from niagara square a suitable rendezvous for the arts and law contingents the parade was a great success followed the making of many speeches in the old theater precincts with cheers that echoed and reechoed in countless salvos from all the college groups stirring speeches were given not able the splendid addresses by dean jones and dean alden both these fine speakers received a great ovation when they spoke up for the encourage ment of sensible athletics for the uni versity dr alden struck a happy note when he said he thought at first when he heard of the occasion that as it was so close to may 1 — moving-up day had some mystic connection with moving cut day contact with the real thing however convinced him that moving up day was an occasion to be en couraged and he expressed himself as right for it dr jones dispelled the notion that the medical college was against ath letic development in the college he said facts were the contrary the new activities leaders were in troduced and the retiring ones bade their farewells announcements were made and a big time closed with music by u b orchestra flappers flappers though they've panned you and fox-trotting and they say your skirts should be much longer yet in spite of all this knocking fellows to your shrine are flocking indicating that your vogue is get ting stronger with your suits of periwinkle and your flashing eyes that twinkle you certainly fill us with delight and we know that we'd be weary in a world quite dark and dreary if ever you should vanish frcm our sight varsity news solemn service trinity church by seb naples delaware avenue was transformed into a college campus on the afternoon of june 4th when two hundred and twenty-six members of the graduating classes of the university of buffalo bedecked in academic caps and gowns marched to trinity epis copal church to attend the baccalaureate services of the year 1922 a beautiful precedent was established this year when for the first time in the history of the univer sity the baccalaureate was held in a church this precedent a worthy and fitting one turned out to be a wonderful success as can be attested by the large number who attended the dignified services effective beautiful procession the avenue was the scene of one of the most beautiful college campus effects — when the senior classes wear ing their graduation dress with dig nified demeanor go to hear the words of wisdom and advice attendant on the baccalaureate the senior law class assembled at the law school in west eagle street and later marched to townsend hall where they joined the graduating classes of the five other colleges of the university — medical dental chemistry pharmacy and arts the day was a typical roseate june sunday — the brightness of the day in a colorful contrast to the black gowns and mortarboards of the seniors the stillness of the beautiful sabbath was unbroken — it seemed that the world paused and watched for a moment as the splendid body of young men and w men on the thresholds of their ea reers inarched up the well-shaded avenue brent the famous when the seniors arrived at trin ; ity episcopal church they were privi ■leged in hearing the words of wisdom in the baccalaureate sermon of the rt i reverend bishop charles h brent episcopal bishop and famous war chaplain there at the church were the
