defeat to the intense and joyous excitement of vic tory this donation is the greatest gift for any purpose in the history of the city of buffalo very signi ficant for the future of buffalo is the fact that its university is the re cipient john lord o'brian assistant u s attorney-general the speaker of the evening indicated that the success of u b.'s campaign is in a sense a vindication of the city's honor that this feat — seemingly amazing incred ible and impossible — is a tribute to the citizens of buffalo particularly to the captains of industry who gave so gladly and unselfishly was mr o'brian's proud and fervent declaration walter piatt cooke to whose in superable assiduity and diligence vic tory is largely due and to whom buf falo owes lasting gratitude and esteem praised his co-workers and the donors in deserving terms those who labor for universities and give to them are torchbearers as truly as those who live and labor in the universities every student in the university finds it quite diffi cult to choose a cast as all the aspir ants show talent and ability the white masquers are at pres ent confronted with the problem of planning a party for the blue masquers committees have been chosen to plan for this party which will be held in the women's lounge on thursday november 7th at 6:30 it is quite necessary that the white masquers convince their blue superiors of their ingenuity in planning a party with the eats and entertainment they will no doubt consider the white masquers valu able and will help them hurry to become full-fledged blue masquers so whites if there is anything you can do to help make this party a success see the committees and tell them about it show pep and en thusiasm the blue masquers have ambi tious plans for this year they will staff of the university : you have again evidenced in no uncertain manner your intense inter est and devotion to the university cause all the townspeople recognize that your gifts represent a real sac rifice for that reason the progress of the university team was keenly watched at headquarters and as the total mounted day by day your efforts commanded increasing attention other teams were spurred on by your efforts to reach their quotas the full time faculty the students and staff of the university subscribed the magnificent total of approxi mately 29,000.00 with some pledges still coming in as this information goes to the bee the students of the college and school of business sub scribed over 4,000.00 the students of the school of medicine about 3 100.00 the students of the school of law about 3,000 the students of the school of dentistry 100 subscrib ing about 1,100 and the students of the school of pharmacy about 1,700 such loyalty and devotion as was ex pressed in these totals is island for battle downstaters to furnish stern opposition with two of the three remaining football games being played on foreign fields only one more oppor tunity remains for buffalo football fans to see the rejuvenated bisons in action on the home gridiron one week from tomorrow hiram college will try its strength against that of u b.'s stalwart defenders on no vember 16th the bulls wind up the season at geneva stacking up against hobart the genevans have been taking a heavy beating this year at the hands of first class eastern teams and could not get back in step last week against clarkson nevertheless they will be a tough bunch to beat tomorrow the blue and white squad locks horns with what opposi tion long island can afford and according to all reports that oppo sition will not be of a character to be slighted long island has a heavy team which alone will be a big point in their favor will buffalo beat long island taking comparative scores for what they are worth the fact that upsala beat long island 14 to 0 would in dicate a slight advantage for buf falo however adding the 13 points by which rochester beat r p i and the six points by which rensselaer won over long island gives rochester an apparently smaller rating over long island than over u b and therefore a slight advantage for the opponents the result — as great a quandary as before — will buffalo beat long island the squad is leaving tonight with that objective before them except for minor injuries every man on the squad is in good condition and anxious to get into the fight to bring home student
