dick collurd and marsh stoll and the rest of the committee bhe was afraid she might have to help the lads eat the choice morsels herself if the crowd didn't hurry up the rush fi nally came at 4:30 and the students stayed until they were routed long after six so the day was saved the tea table wab decked with a lace cloth long yellow tapers and a beuutiful bouquet presented by fel ton the florist miss compton sec retary in the business ad office pour ed and marsh stoll helped hand the tea around he and dick collard were extremely efficient in keeping the co-eds in circulation and every one had make an earnest effort to at tend frosh on edge as sophs organize for battle there have been vague rumors in the past of a freshmen-sophomore rush between halves at a home foot ball game nothing however has heretofore materialized the frosh have been prepared all season to stage any kind of a rush agreeable to the sophomore class the latter class have been recalcitrant in organizing for this affair it may be that the sophs are afraid of what would happen to them at the hands of this frosh crowd it may be that proper leadership hns been lacking but in all events ihe stage is set tor this rush to lake place between halves at the adrian game it la up to every male sophomore on the campus to turn out to saturdays game prepared to take the freshman clam into camp for this purpose a general meeting of the male members of the sophomore class will bo held in the auditorium of edmund hayes hall the prestige ot every sophomore man on the campus depends on the turnout friday noon and at saturday's game the frosh have had things all their own way on the campub this year it's time the sophs gave an account of themselves sam pusateri president of the sophomore artb lass and jack olson ( president of the business ad sophs have pledged the support ot their classes to this undertaking the sophs in pharmacy are also expected to lend , ihclr support with the classes of the three schools united in their efforts this rush cannot help but rebuild the wnnlng prestige of the sophomore class but sam jack and a few others canot put this thing across it will re quire the cooperation of everyone cot cerned panhellenic council faces problems of illegal rushing the council of panhellenic associa tion like the interfraternity council is asserting itself on our campus it is assuming its proper place as the self governing and deliberative body dictating the will of its representa tive members to their respective groups never before has the associa tion come forth so openly and truth fully in the presentation ot actual facts as it has thin year with the publicantlon of the panhellenic guide an accurate statement of the members financial obligations etc of every campus sorority every enter ing woman erceived a copy of this booklet never before has panhellenic so openly and completely discussed and acted upon the aftermath b of the rushing period very definite rushing rules exist this year almost every sorority has been guilty of breaking one or more of them infringement of the rushing rules in previous years always have been covered up this year they have been brought into the open definite accusations have been made and the sororities who have been the most serious violaters are being judged by a special judiciary committee furthermore penalties for the less serious violations are being devised to be effective in the future the council recognizes many of the evils of the present rushing system it further recognizes that lt is its duty to attempt to eliminate as many of them as is possible rushing should be placed on an intelligent sane ethical and truthful basis rushing rules are made to be regarded and followed panhellenic intends to en force this cooperate men's glee club holds final tryouts tuesday the men's glee club is an up and coming organization this year forty three men are members to date the ambition of the men already in the club to boost the total membership up over the fifty mark to this end the glee club extends an invitation to all men students to come out next tuesday evening at 7:15 and try out for a place in the club it is obvious that the glee club connot be taking in new men much later than this date because of the difficulty involved in having buch man learn the music which the others have been sophomore class announces tuesday november 7 as the date for their dance to be held in the women's lounge the sensational details will appear in next week's bee stands in panic as frosh stage foot ball farce last saturday afternoon the root ers ut the u b.ciarkbon game were delightfully surprised by a novel foot ball game played between the halves by two picked teams from the newly organized freshman club of u b ab the referee's whistle blew an nouncing the close of the first half a tall figure came dashing on to the field bearing a pail followed closely by a short fat man dressed in white and wearing a derby in the conven tional referee's garb carl croft was the water-boy and wore a pair of shorts the referee was impersonat ed by mark clements aa the referee and water-boy step ped on the field a wild cry arose from the vicinity of tbe barn and eleven men tore out on the field led by fred bean their captain they were the bean-poles each member of the team towering at least five feet ten they were attired in varied raiment rang ing from night-bhirts and blips to dresses of all styles.clobely following this team were the shrimps their opponents led by their captain frank guirtlno they were all at tired in pajamas one of the out standing costumes was worn by car no n tier the shrimps kicked off to the beanpoles at the first attempt to kick-off guirtino missed the ball as freeman pulled it to one side and thumbed his nose guirtino's second try was successful bean received and as he ran down the field tacklers dropped to right and left as he passed the players bench croft the water boy dropped his pail shed his coat and dove ou to the field tackling bean who had clear field ahead the full back went down with a thud and a cry was heard is there a doctor in the crowd down came the stal wart physician in the person ot grant nasal and after feeling bean's pulse he pulled a sheet from his case and bean was carried from the held the remains were deposit ed and the game continued croft substituted for . benn nnd as the team came out of its huddle all spied a beautiful girl in the stands and stopped to wave at her then the play continued with a forward pass which was intercepted by gulr tlno as he broke through the pros pective tacklers and tore down the field for a touchdown he spied a cop on the sidelines bothered by his day registration drops evening session gains no doubt many btudehts will be surprised to hear that the combined enrollments of all the day school divi sions of the university show a de crease of 22 students or about one und one-half percent from last year'b october enrollment of 1650 however the evening session has set an ull-time high record for its en rollment is larger by 135 students ' than the combined enrollment of all other divisions of the institution ac cording to the records in the regib , trar's office cept for the difficulty which many ' have found of paying the fees out of i i last year's enrollment in the eve ning session at this time in the fall was 1396 or 367 less than the pre sent figure which has reached 1763 with perhaps 200 additional registra tion still to be reported this increase to be sure includes 192 new students in the american institute of banking courses and 75 additional students in the nurses training school courses yet 100 more have already been added to last year's enrollment in the re gular night courses commenting on the trend of en rollment which shows marked in creases in the adult divisions and a dfght decrease in the day session hancellor capen pointed out that this undoubtedly reflects a steadily increasing appreciation by the adult mpulatlon of the community of the mportance of continuing formal edn titlon indeed the popularity of adult ducatlon has clearly been enhanced i>y the depression more people have to the see the value of continued rnlversltji study both as a means of ncreablng their vocational avallabll ty and as an instrument for enrlch ng and elevating their uvea the enrollment in this division of he university would certainly have been larger both last year and this r capen went on to point out ex cont on page 2 col 6 cont on page
