living expenses for next year in the graduate library school at the univer sity of chicago graduating from north tonawanda high school tn june li*!0 mr stieg came to the university of buffalo where he did ills major work in greek and latin and received bis b.a with high est honors in 1930 in 1913 he took a m a degree also at u b with a thesis in paloeography using part of the university's collection of photostats of latin manuscript in 1932 mr stieg continued his study at harvard where he likewise took a mas ter's degree for the present year he has been working in the library school at the university the track meet has occupied no small place in the activities of that day beta pi itho fraternity previous sponsors of the track meet has this year relinquished the responsi bility to beta chi epsilan with all the fervor connected with trying a new enterprise the latter fra ternity has plunged into the work of staging the best track meet ever seen ln the university's history track aj a major sport is just ahead there exists in the various schools talent such as u b has never seen in its previous track contests with this knowledge beta chi epsilan desires to produce a display of its kind the sigma kap pa tea dance proved to be extremely suc cessful ln promoting a spirit of friend liness among the students of the univer sity music was provided by jack arm bruster's orchestra personality and scholarship shown at the university of buffalo women debate at syracuse university during the past week the women's debate team have been extremely ac tive meeting syracuse university on the evening of april 10 and staging an ex hibition debate of university women on tuesday afternoon april 18th the subject of the syracuse debate was resolved : that the inter-allied war debts be cancelled the university of buffalo upholding the affirmative was represented by the misses ruth free man frances whit taker and mary klein the debate which was held ln the auditorium of the grosvenor li brary was conducted by dean park pvcxjiag the debate the dc-balcrs s.e*e entertained at dinner at home of dr reid the encounter between the u of b teams on arpril 18 was held in the audi torium of edmund hayes hall as part of the program of the annual meeting which the american association of the university women hold in the spring on the campus anti-war lecture on wednesday evening april 27th at 8 p m in the women's lounge the anti-war committee will sponsor a lec ture on youth and the impending war watch the bulletin board for an announcement of the specific title of the speech and the name of the lecturer honor prominent students at intercollegiate ball ftinal plans have been made for the inter-collegiate ball and frolic to be held april 28th at the moose roof-gar den ballroom the inter-collegiate conference the sponsors of the jubilee was originally organized between the student leaders of syracuse cornell and new york uni versities as an honorary fraternity the fraternity has shown an appreciable growth in the past seven years and at present represents fourteen new york state colleges pennsylvania and many other eastern universities are expected to come within the ranks before the next convention takes place at syracuse next november the purpose of this or ganization is to enable the leaders f the several colleges to meet socially and bring about greater intercollegiate feel ing and activity one of its chief ideals is to aid and influence promising up coming leaders to enter college where they may best adapt themselves and in turn display leadership in carrying out the best college traditions and ideals when there the affair will begin at eight o'clock with an informal introduction of pros pective college students to the-repre sentatives and coaches of the fourteen new york universities and also to the members of the u b football and bas ket ball teams at 9.30 teo"monroe aud his new yorkers will start off the danc ing tee is bringing to buffalo a trio of girl blues singers a regular feature of his band when big ben tolls the mid night hour bob rich of u b will start the grand march of the leading athlet ics and scholars of western captain of syracuse football team ; walter drakar sbi saptin of the rochester football team john godfrey eddie flynn and don lynch from niagara and johnny rybnll nnd henry ferguson from ouuis us college after the grand march louis gregor le of cornell the new york state chair man of the intercollegiate fraternity will be introduced and will proceed to present prep and credentials to the western new york college men who have been selected by their respective colleges to receive these awards at the tapping ceremonial subsequently lead ing representatives of the several high schools will lie awarded i c emblems refreshments will be served by sweet young liar maids on red checkered top top tables which will surround the dance floor ye goodc ole three-point two will be on hand for delegation of university professors will be present ln the official capacity of pat rons of the affair die sponsors moving-up day track-field meet movlng-up day has for some years been one of the few traditional affairs at the university the track meet has occupied no small place in the activities of that day beta pi itho fraternity previous sponsors of the track meet has this year relinquished the responsi bility to beta chi epsilan with all the fervor connected with trying a new enterprise the latter fra ternity has plunged into the work of staging the best track meet ever seen ln the university's history track aj a major sport is just ahead there exists in the various schools talent such as u b has never seen in its previous track contests with this knowledge beta chi epsilan desires to produce a display of track and field contests which can only be followed by the pro motion of track to n major sport julius walter chairman of athletics in b.x e has charge of the affair and the entire fraternity is to work under him he bas a tentative program which presents dash event four hundred and fifty yard and eight hundred and eighty yard races the mile and high and low hurdles other events include the relay the medley the shot put the discuss the broad jump and the high jump the committee is highly in favor of a tow novelties such as a fraternity relay and a two-mile run the commit tee nlso recommended a fe r " oopts 0 for women but the advice of authori ties was adverse and dampened the idea considerably a complete list of events has been posted on the bulletin board in edmund hayes hall entries may be left in the special track and field box in the basement if anyone has suggestions which would make for a better meet the committee requests that the written suggestions be put in this mail box sigma kappa's tea dance big success on the afternoon of april 12th sigma kappa sorority appropriately opened the easter vacation with their holiday tea dance held in the women's lounge the third of its kind the sigma kap pa tea dance proved to be extremely suc cessful ln promoting a spirit of friend liness among the students of the univer sity music was provided by jack arm bruster's orchestra and the refresh ments were rendered especially interest ing by th addition of jelly beans to the usual menu of tea and cake mrs ed ward g scliaurath and miss betty spencer presided at the urns those who attended the dance are quite agreed that afternoon tea dances are a custom well worth continuing dancing to follow cap and gown will tap new members glee clubs to present annual musical concert to-night tonight in the hotel 1 statler ballroom the 12 annual home concert and dance of musical clubs will take place this event has taken its place with annual activities of the student body until lt la now second to the junior prom in social prestige as a result hundreds of under gradutes alumni and friends of the uni versity will be found at the statler to night the evening's program will start at 8:15 sharp the combined glee clubs will present at that time a concert last ing until nearly 10 o'clock the program which has been arranged by mr jay mark ward director will present both clubs ln combined and individual num bers of a variety never before matched in the history of the clubs the women's glee olub will be heard in several numbers including those which were used in the women's glee club contest held recently at the buitalo state teachers college those who have heard this club in past years will be delighted in the progress made this year the men's glee club wil be heard ln several numbers including this year three religious numbers which were chosen at the beginning of the season by the members of the club themselves as usual several sororities and fra ternities have engaged boxes they will find larger boxes this year than have ever before been available to these groups following the concert at 10 o'clock there will be four hours of dancing to the music of the century orchestra the orchestra will be directed by al sell bach himself al ls the fellow who sent us some of our leading basketball stars including eddie of buffalo in 1932-33 who graduated from the school of business administration last june writes to dean clarence s marsh from london where he is now attending the london school of economics dear dean marsh : i am registered at the london school of economies for a master of science degree having as an adviser professor lionel robbdns however i am not eligi ble for the degree until i pay a three guinea fee to the university of london to register me there as an internal stud ent and to cover my exemption from the customary matrinculatlon examina tion since it requires 2 years to obtain a master of science degree here and since the obtaining of a higher degree was not my chief purpose in coming i so far have not made these necessary ar rangements there is as you see a rather compli cated and deeidedely different reglstra tion scheme in vogue here as compared with the uuitd states the university of isondon is a degree granting examin ing and registering institution while the london school of economics one may say is practically separate from the university except insofar as its students desire a london university degree the 18 or 19 other colleges nnd schools com psoing
