leicester cuthbort audrey dayman margaret egbert mary powell william powell janet webb armand williams faculty declares physical education not required at its monthly meeting on april 20 1932 the faculty of the college of arts and sciences voted that phy sical education no longer be required of university students but that each individual student be strongly urged the form of corrective and body building exercises which best meets his individual needs this was the first of a series of eleven recommen dations presented to the faculty by its committee on university health and physical education the remaining recommendations which were tabled until the next meeting of the faculty are concerned with suggestions for improving the efficiency and useful ness of the university's physical edu cation and health service the com mittee of which professor farber is chairman was appointed by the chan cellor in january upon recommenda tion of the faculty to survey the uni versity's health and physical educa tion program in the light of the recent changes in the cuxriculum of the college it has met frequently during the interval and presents its report after very thorough study of the problem the remaining members of the committee are dean macdon ald professors carpenter hector keene jorgensen norton and mr mcgrath radio broadcast bob beyer president of the senior class of the business school an nounces that a radio program of un usual interest to the students of the university has been arranged for may 12th at 5:45 p m over station wben the program will consist of two speakers mr harry brockington prominent statistician and economist with a large investment house and dr lewis d froman of the faculty of the university they will discuss two different points of view of the ques tion the recent federal reserve policy track meet presents galaxy of u b athletes all schools to be represented the annual moving up day track meet will be held tomorrow afternoon at the all-high stadium beta pi rho fraternity will again award the trophy to the winning team all indications point to a very close meet business ad last year's win ners are a slight favorite to repeat with wally maunz and norm kayser who gathered 31 points between them last year again expected to pull down a number of firsts and seconds the arts and science school will present a powerful and well balanced team with point winners from last year in nearly every event red ben zow don limoncelli and tom mc donough are expected to come through with many valuable points pharmacy although having a small number of entries have jim fiske who holds both the hundred and two twenty records and werner last year's four-forty winner among the entrants in addition to vernier and slepian in the distance events the professional schools have a well-balanced team led by jules hoff man last year's pole vault winner and sid gibson high jump record holder little is known of the actual strength of this team and they are the dark horse of the meet the committee has worked hard for the success of the meet and has been very fortunate in securing the all high stadium for this event the en tire student body ceremonies started with a proces sion from the university buildings to the campus led by mrs lawrence sparfeld and raymond maccart car rying the colors dr boynton made the invocation mrs john f bechert sang the stars and stripes jerome b chase chairman of the buffalo washington bicentennial committee spoke and mrs matthew l shearer president of the buffalo colony re cited joyce kilmer's poem sha piro alberta isch edith arnold bison — henry desmon carl arbes man james kime moving-up day festivities and parade tomorrow a colorful pageant to celebrate the growing tradition of moving-up day will wend its procession of fun and gaiety out main street from the terrace at 10:30 saturday morning unless the city ordinance prevents the use of main street if such is the case it is planned that the parade shall proceed down franklin street to tupper and down delaware avenue to townsend hall fraternities sororities clubs and organizations are entering floats to make the parade an interesting spec tacle two prizes of ten dollars each will be awarded to the most unique floats entered by a men's organization and by a sorority a cup is being presented to the best organized school represented in the procession and several prizes are being offered to the funniest individuals both male and female the committee composed of nelson cotton edward schultz kenneth mayer seymour abeles janet lund and betty maurer has succeeded in collecting a number of bands for this important occasion including the lar kin fife and drum corps washington fife and drum corps boy scouts band and the riverside masten and east high school bands judges will view tile parade at three points to determine the winning floats all you adams choose your eves students choose the moving-up day queen your vote will help the lucky girl who on the basis of popu larity looks leadership and scholar ship will be chosen to be queen of moving-up day the following ten girls have been selected by a commit tee and one of them will be announced queen at the beta pi rho dance to night janet lund sophia kuziw irma wagner betty maurer evelyn anthony sally diebold helen heinrich alma culkowski mary louise nice janet griffiths the queen will be given the cov eted position in the parade tomorrow by riding in the leading automobile your vote will be taken by the circu lation staff of the bee when you re ceive your copy masquers to complete year with banquet blue masquers will hold its annual banquet at the north hill saturday may 7 at 6:30 o'clock each member is permitted to bring a guest the banquet will be silverman will make a few remarks pertinent to the occasion 3 robert i millonzi president of blue masquers will make his farewell address 4 mr stanley d travis director of blue masquers will summarize the progress of the club in the last three years 5 dr nathaniel cantor the prin cipal speaker of the evening will give humorous comments on topics of the day interfraternity the interfraternity council held its second annual banquet at the alumni club last wednesday evening an en joyable meal was served which was followed by a discussion of plans for the coming year dr scofield fac ulty advisor of the council was the principal speaker of the evening dexter levy outgoing president also gave a short talk announcement was made of the next interfraternity council meeting which will be held at the beta chi epsilon house wednes day may 18 s a a members to be chosen during this past week the junior classes of the various schools of the university have elected their repre sentative to a place on the ballot of officers for the 1932-1933 student ath letic association the five names of the selected representatives will be presented to the student body at a general election to be held friday may 13 the candidate receiving the highest vote is to be president of the asso ciation the second highest is to be come secretary and the third highest vice-president the president and sec retary of the student athletic asso ciation become members of the uni versity of buffalo athletic council this year's election is in charge of the president norman kayser a sen ior in the school of business admin istration and howard wright jr a senior in the school of pharmacy mr wright is secretary of the stu dent athletic association watch the bulletin boards for the announcement of the
