veterans club in addition to the bxe cup on march 3rd the twenty-fourth annual junior promenade was held at kleinhans music hall all those who attended agree that lt was one of the most successful of all junior proms at 10:30 charming charlotte essrig was crowned prom queen in an im pressive ceremony she was awarded the bxe cup and a bou quet and scroll from the veterans club following the grand march which was led by business man ager carlton moe l robert gau chat a senior in the 1 school of dentistry was tapped for bison tony carnevale's fourteen-piece band featuring paul muni and his violin provided the music for dancing tiny schwartz and lil lian kay were the featured vocal ists in spite of the curfew which forced the dance to come to an early close many attended con gratulations are in order for chairman clarke cassidy and all the hard-working members of the prom committee who helped to make the event a success eighth annual retreat opened on march 8 i the eighth annual retreat for itholic students opened this year i thursday evening march bth le retreat is the most important nction in the catholic program the university the annual treat is not exclusively a new an club activity but one in lich every catholic student can ke part the retreat will be conducted • rev vincent donovan 0.p i d of new york city father movan is a lecturer of national putation and is the founder of a catholic thought association i he has worked constantly long college students he knows eir problems and their needs irsonal conferences with those iking the retreat are welcome ipointments can be made to see n through the chaplains the week of march 6th has en known at the university as a iek of religious emphasis the rious fraternities sororities and other societies of the university have been invited to ask the col lege chaplains to attend their meetings to discuss religion or ne religious question on ursday march bth at 10:30 a convocation was held in hayes hall at which the various relig silver tea to be held to benefit red cross on march 13th the women or ganized for war service of the university of buffalo will hold a silver tea in the exhibition room of lockwood library from three until five in the afternoon the contributions are to be used to send magazine subscriptions to a red cross center overseas chairmen of the affair are muriel hintermeier and marjorie egan co-chairmen elyse ham pie chairman of invitations lorraine lash chairman of re freshments and bernice yasinow chairman of decorations those invited to pour are mrs samuel capen mrs harold hewitt mrs albert r shadle mrs bertram lemon miss helen markham miss emma dieters miss dorothy haas and dr har riet montigue in the receiving line will be dean macdonald mrs reginald pegrum muriel hintermeier and marjorie egan co-chairmen of wows arietta barry treasurer of wows bernice yasinow sec retary of wows and mary pol lumbo war bond sales chairman for the wows every student is invited to at tend and to make his or her con tribution to the cause students are urged to bring their mothers to the tea the exhibition room is on the third floor of lockwood memorial library engineering society takes tour tomorrow on saturday march 10th the engineering society of the uni versity of buffalo will visit the metals & alloys specialties corp to witness production facilities of the plant this tour has been planned for a number of weeks permission was obtained through the efforts of mr beane those students who signified that they would attend will meet at elm wood and hertel avenues at one o'clock on friday february 23rd sev eral members of the engineering society attended a lecture given at the hotel statler by the amer ican society of engineering the speaker dr g edward pendray spoke on rockets the next meeting of the engi neering society will be held march 22nd in crosby 201 at 7:30 p m all engineering students are invited to attend i r c resolves new policies are needed new system should re place the nomination committees the international relations club of the university of buffalo in a recent meeting discussed the problems and faults of the pres ent student government and ar rived at certain conclusions these were incorporated into a petition as follows : whereas the membership of this organization is constituted of students believing in our amer ican ideals of democratic govern ment and whereas it is apparent to all students of the university of buffalo that the student govern ment is composed of students not representative of the student body and that it is also apparent that they are chosen undemocratically and in a way designed to per petuate a clique in power there fore be it resolved by the interna tional relations club of the uni versity of buffalo that the i r c desires the formation of an inter club council to be part of the gov erning body of norton union and be it further resolved that ithe i r c expressing the wishes of every progressive student of the uni versity of buffalo desires the abolition of the undemocratic system of nomination committees to be replaced by a system of nomination by petition and be it further resolved that the i r c demands that all questions of pol icy concerning norton union be decided by student referendum this resolution was voted upon unanimously by the attending members of the they may pay the full price imme diately subscriptions will be taken at the booth in norton union any day between 11:30 a m and 1:30 p m those who cannot come to the union at this time can contact some member of the circulation staff sororities and other organiza tions whose writeups require al tering in any way must have changes in by friday march 9th or the write-ups will be printed as originally received all senior write-ups must be turned in at norton union counter by friday if they are to be included sen iors not turning in write-ups win be represented in the yearbook by picture and name only write-ups include honors received and extra curricular activities in which the student has participated during his college career annua home concert will be april 14th the last big dance of the year is the home concert and ball to be held at kleinhans music hall on april 14th the concert will begin at 7:46 p m and dancing will be from 9:30 to 12 midnight stephen palmer will conduct the glee club the committee in charge of the concert includes the fol lowing : chairwoman of the dance — irene fisher * tickets shirley moehlau assistant to tickets — helen pierog patrons and alumni — the dance the tickets go on sale today they range from 2.20 a couple for the concert and ball to 65c a person for the concert only chancellor announces faculty appointments appointment of dr sayre p maddock as visiting associate pro fessor of spanish at the univer sity of buffalo for the second semester of this year and the first semester of next year was an nounced today by chancellor sam uel p capen dr maddock graduate of wes leyan and columbia universities taught at ward college buenos aires for 17 years from 1932 to 1934 he was vice-rector of union theological seminary in buenos aires he now is on leave of absence as instructor in spanish in kenmore high school chancellor capen also an nounced the promotion of dr al fred 0 aldridge from instructor to assistant professor in english stephen palmer organist and choir director of central presby terian church and graduate of syracuse university has been ap pointed by the student activities committee as director of glee clubs at the university choir gives program of liturgical music a program of orthodox liturgi cal music was presented on the evening of tuesday february 27th in the music room of hayes hall by st george's choir which came as a guest of the american or thodox alliance the organization for orthodox greek catholics here on the campus john philosophos president of the club welcomed the choir its director reverend father john h gelslnger the members ot the faculty and the students miss katherine cretekos secre tary of the alliance presented the aims duties and functions of the organization the well known st simeon's prayer opened the program which was carried on informally the lord's ptayer the kaln onlkon and the creed were the main selections for the first part of the program during the second
