place on the following days monday oct 18 chi omega tuesday oct 19 theta chi wednesday oct 20 sigma al pha rho phi psi friday oct 22 alpha gamma delta saturday oct 23 sigma delta tau sigma kappa these parties are given in or der to help rushees become bet ter acquainted with the sorority girls as most of you know pref erential bidding will take place monday oct 25 from 10:30 a.m to 1:00 p.m the preference cards may be called for in dean mac donald's office where they can be marked and turned in only one ballot shall be cast and that will be considered final these ballots shall be checked with fra ternity preferential lists by the neutral body preference lists may be obtained by the panhellenic delegates from this neutral body at 2:00 p.m on the day of pref erential bidding a silence period will extend from midnight sat oct 23 to 1:00 p.m monday oct 25 for fraternity women the silence period for rushees shall extend from midnight sun oct 24 to 1:00 p.m monday oct 25 this means that they must not speak to other rushees or upper class men or women any rushee breaking panhellen ic rulings will not be pledged for six weeks after the close of for mal rushing to any fraternity to faculty members introduced last week last week a tea was held at norton union for the new fac ulty members of the university who are introduced below in the science department is dr irving w knobloch dr knobloch received his ba and ma at the university of buffalo and his phd from lowa state college he has written several imblications on the flora of our city and of mexico dr knobloch has instructed at u 8 harvard and lowa state now he is back at the university as an assistant professor of biology another handsome addition to the science department is mr gehart r hennig instructor in chemistry mr hennig just came to the u s from germany in 1937 he received his ba in 1940 summa cum laude and his ma in 1941 both from u b he was appointed phi beta kappa and also received a student med al from the american institute of chemists mr hennig expects his phd within the year from columbia university dr paul e civin came to our mathematics department from the university of michigan where he instructed last year he re ceived his ba from u b in 1939 magna cum laude was elected to phi beta kappa and won the sherk memorial prize in mathematics he went to duke university on a fellowship and received phd in 1942 dr civin has been a lecturer at u b during the last year millard fillmore will hold opening dance millard fillmore college is having its opening reception dance tonight it is to be held in the terrace or hotel statler willi gene regan's orchestra all mem bers or m f c and their rriends ; are invited to ittend free of i charge paul kuhn is head of the pro i gram committee and will be as sisted by marion dilliot sonia oliver and robert perrine schol arships will be awarded and m f c s a keys will be present ed to students during the eve ning two midnight oil keys will be presented to members of last year's stuff cadets have been invited so unescorted women need not wor ry ninth wartime commencement held october 11 in its ninth wartime commence ment the university of buffalo conferred twenty-four degrees and certificates at special exercises last monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock the ceremony was held in chancellor samuel p capen's office and marked the conferring of twelve degrees of bachelor of arts one diploma in business ad ministration three degrees of bachelor of science in the school of business administration six graduate certificates in social work and two degrees of master of social service the recipients were generally those who had completed their programs during the summer periods for what is believed to be the first time in university history a degree was presented to a soldier who has completed his studies while in service second lieut colin macleod jr of 119 niag ara falls blvd received the de gree of bachelor of science in the school of business adminis tration lieut macleod who lacked fourteen credits of gradu ation when he entered service in the summer of 1942 obtained four additional credits during a recent visit home and the full ten credits that the university provides for military service he is a pilot on a b-24 liberator bomber and is now stationed at biggs field tex he is twenty four for honors at the sixth graduation exercises last friday ten were recognized for super ior academic work and five for superior military proficiency and leadership the following capt woodbury announced
