the year will take place tomorrow night at kleinhan'a music hall at 8:30 the ball be ginning at 10:30 the university of buffalo musical organizations will present their annual home concert and ball it should be the best home concert in history if hours of arduous practising and outside performances are a cri terion special stress ls laid up on the mixed chorus which will perform the well-known and dif ficult song of fate by brahms from the very classical brahms to the very popular yoemans the chorus interpretations under tho able directorship of mr van lier are most enjoyable includ ed on the program will be the men's glee club rendition of steal away the fred waring prize song of the inter-collegiate competition soloists include doris silverberg soprano jack dustman baritone louiß man zella saxaphonist and dean sta thacos winner of the fred allen contest pianist proficient ac companists are edward farmer doris rosenberg and dean statha cos one of the highlights of the evening will be the tapping for cap and gown each year at home concert the members of this honorary women's fraternity choose those girls from the junior class whom they feel best exem • plify the ideals of cap and gown those chosen are the women who have been most influential dining their college course in promoting the highest ideals of college life eligibility is based on the traits of personality undergraduate ac tivities and scholarship which tend to promote the ideals ol the college it must be emphasized that no position on any team or publication or office in any club r society no participation in any moving up queen to be nominated by students today today balloting will begin on the campus to select the annual may queen who is to reign over the 1942 moving-up day festivi ties a ballot box will be installed in norton from 11:30 to 4:00 dur ing which time students are to vote for one girl after the vot ing is closed the ballots will be counted and then the following procedure will take place 1 the ave girls receiving the most votes will be presented to the student body next week one each day at 1:00 at norton hall 2 on wednesday april 29 each student will cast a final vote for one of the five candidates 3 the winner will be an nounced in the bee on friday may 1 as usual the highlight of mov ing-up day is the parade in the morning this year due to the tire situation it will be impos sible for the committee to get trucks for the various floats therefore it will be up to each organization to gets its own trans portation any kind of convey ance will be allowed such as roller skates wagons buggies scooters cars etc the judges will choose the winners on origin ality and ingenuity there will be prizes for each division the divisions will include sororities monday last day to order picture filled buffalonian students will be given a last chance to subscribe to the buf falonian friday april 17 and monday april 19 on these two days subscriptions will be taken in the lobby of norton hall from 12 until 1:30 p m only those books on which a down payment has been made will be ordered from the printer a down pay ment of $ 50 is all that is neces sary to reserve a copy but this must be paid by monday april 19 a student may order his book either at the desk in norton or from any one of the numerous campus salesmen the group pictures which this year are more numerous than ever before have turned out ex ceptionally clear these include photographs of campus activities athletic teams fraternities sorori ties and honorary organizations this large edition filled with pictures will be bound in an at tractive blue and silver leather cover award to be given at business ad party business adders are planning their 12th annual parent-student banquet to be held wednesday evening at 7:00 p m april 22 in norton cafeteria nick kish chairman of the affair announced the following men in charge of arrangements norm keller din ner coley macleod display and guests gene manner publicity bill wilson tickets les otter man speakers and don gardin er awards don gardiner aunounced that a number of awards will be given that evening to oustanding stu dents in the business school al pha kappa psi will award a me dallion based on scholarship erie county c p a will give 25 na tional gypsum will award 100 to lockwood library opens poetry room something new has been add ed - - - - to the lockwood memorial library why wait until they're class ics and you're dead too meet your quaint contempo raries now in the modern poetry room on the second floor of the lockwood library open for reading from 11 to 12 and 2 to 4 monday through friday other hours by appointment both poetry and prose by mod ern poets from yeats and hardy to windfall and joyce an edi tion of ulysses excitingly illus trated by matisse are represent ed in this excellent collection which is now being made avail able to university students miss mary barnard local bard crowned by her poetic laurels reigns over the very complete artistically arranged and above all logically organized collection she will be glad to teach those of the realm of the inspired to strum the lyre or so we have heard notice to all students called in selective service a recommended form for as sistance in military classifica tions to be taken by the se lectee from the college to the army is on file in the dean's office reports indicate that this form when prepared by the college and given to the student or alumnus at the time of his induction has prov en of definite value it is hoped that all men called into service ask for this form charity campaign begins next week on u b campus the annual joint charities drive on the university campus as well as everywhere else is a big ger and more important thing this year than in any previous year the funds y ill go not only to the joint charities but also to the y m c a and to a fund for the prisoners of war the u s 0 the navy relief united china and other appeals the goal for all of these causes is 1,470,000 or more on the campus the drive will be conducted during the week of april 20 to 25 the usual system will be used deduction of the do nated amount from the students breakage fees last year the university donated 600 this year that amount must be et least doubled to meet the needs of the added appeals in each freshman and sophomore english class in each history class and in each tutorial section one stu dent has been designated to col lect the signature of his fellow students those who gave $ 50 last year must make it 1.00 this year if you gave a dollar last year make it 2.00 this year the joint charities workers wear red white and blue feath ers you will wear a red feather if you do your part those working for brockhurst earl broder ick eugene cantelupe earl cant seniors climax week with moving-up day the week after next will be known as senior week at the university a continuous pro gram has been planned with moving-up day as a climax sen iors will wear their caps and gowns throughout the week monday will be celebrated as rose day when all students will join the seniors in wearing roses ivy day will be recognized on tuesday when the traditional ivy planting will take place a re ception and tea will then be given by the faculty in the blue room the senior luncheon will be held on wednesday at 1:30 p m and the librarian's tea for seniors will take place on friday from 3-5 p m high school students to be campus guests juniors seniors and postgradu ates of western new york high schools will be guests of the uni versity of buffalo at its 12th an nual acquaintance day friday april 24th on the north main street campus the program a community service is designed to acquaint eligible students with the oppor tunities available in higher edu cation at the university of buf falo and other institutions future possibilities for college trained personnel the relationship of the college to the war and the financing of a college education will be explained to the visiting students who also will inspect the facilities and see numerous exhibits and demonstrations the navy v-l plan will also be ex plained the program of which roger w gratwick placement director is chairman will open at 2:30 p.m with a general assembly in the auditorium of edmund hayes hall chancellor samuel f ca pen will deliver brief remarks following this will be group con ferences a tour of the campus buildings and exhibits conducted by outstanding university stu dents acting as guides and a dance in the evening in norton three juniors are elected to phi beta kappa chapter for the first time three junior students have been elected to phi beta kappa at the university of buffalo it was announced today the three all outstanding in scholarship are donald w miller 45 mullen st tonawanda economics maryulice d seagrave 350 warwick ave classics joseph l ullman 397 jefferson ave mathematics the chapter omlcron was
