of the tradi tional pan hellenic ball the scene of this gala event this year will be beautiful and modern kleinhana music hall the great ballroom will be gaily decorated with the multi-colored banners of the various sororities bob armstrong's complete wren-nbc orchestra including his popular vocalist tiny schwartz will furnish dance tunes from 10-2 in the receiving line will be miss lillias macdonald dean of women and the officers of the pan-hellenic council phyllis »»• theiß grace primas doris shver berg and blanche macoff grace primas as vice-president of the pan-hellenic council has been appointed general chairman of the dance she has bee as sisted by the following rommtt tee heads arrangements and me orations roslyn lefkowich mu sic doris silverberg doer blanche macoff invitation and patrons christine gibson tic kets betty wollschlager and pub licity ruth brendel and mary allce seagrave western new york colleges join in dance next week a week from this friday eve ning another gala affair slightly new and slightly different but ' something that will really fill the bill will be presented it is the intercollegiate hop to be held at r kleinhans music hall on friday i november 28 from 10 p.m to 2 f a.m music will be furnished by i bob armstrong and his wben f nbc orchestra featuring vocalist j tiny schwartz there have been few attempts • made in this city to bring the students of the various colleges in the surrounding area together for an evening of dancing and to • share the enjoyment of an at mosphere of music and merri robert guenther and harvel nevalls of the university of buf falo are the sponsors for this school and they promise a night of fine entertainment for all the facilities for dancing are excel - lent and the music of bob arm strong will complete the friendly atmosphere eare now available at person pre-sale and 2.00 oor they may be pur rom numerous students is colin macleod val d and james donnelly are selling them at norton hall counter other salesmen include wyllys casselman gordon tresch carmen tillinghast allan petrie robert blaney marion domedian edward o'brien paul fauth leo smith fred loomls from med school and roger smith from the school of pharmacy dress for the dance will be thanksgiving dance will be held today at 3.00 p m on wednesday november 19 a thanksgiving matinee dance will be held at norton hall under auspices of norton union this will be in the way of pre-hollday celebra tion there will be dancing to the tunes of nickelodeon re freshments apropos for the sou son will be served barbara woodworth has been appointed chairman of the mati nee dance masquers stage crew begins work on sets blue masquers is working in dustriously on its production of roadside by lynn riggs in the acting department daily rehear sals under the critical eye of stanley d travis bid fair to cul minate in polished performances on the nights of december sth and 6th work on the flrßt of two sets to be built for the play got un der way monday stage manager larry mclntyre has announced that the work room will be open every day following thanksgiving vacation up to the evening of the first performance he asks that all blue and white masquers come down as often as possible a schedule of work room hours has been posted on the bulletin board in norton hall production manager robert brockhurst assures us that the lighting properties and costume departments are all operating ef ficiently if we can depend on present indications masquers will have a fine show in road side said bob in an interview on monday last convocation will feature music of u b graduate this morning at 10:30 the bison will preßent victor danna his vibraharp and his organ at con vocation mr danna who is a university of buffalo graduate will play several novelty numbers including a novel arrangement of chattanooga choo-choo he will also play the organ and vi braharp in unison a feat which has never before been presented before an audience mr danna comes from a fam ily of musicians his first musi cal instruction was given by his father who once played for john phillip sousa next week's convocation will be sponsored by pan-hellenic coun cil plans for the program have not been arranged as yet one of the scholarships offered by harvard university is restrict ed to students who formerly sold newspapers colorful entries scheduled for carnival night preparations have been moving at a rapid pace as the carnival night committee makes its last minute plans for the annual mar di gras or carnival to be held at norton hall saturday novem ber 29 from 8 to 12 p.m as was mentlone din last week's bee all entries must be submitted in writting to the chairman of the committee mickey ellis before a booth can be assigned inasmuch as entries will not be taken after next thursday november 27 the remoining organizations are urged to hand in their petitions as soon as possible there are still quite a few desirable locations left so hurry before these too are gone all entries will be divided into three categories namely frater nities sororities and activities the best entry in each classifica tion will be awarded a cash prize booths will be judged on how closely they approximate the true colorful mardi gras spirit come early and enjoy a full evening of free dancing and hi larious inexpensive entertain ment all members of norton union stag or otherwise will be admitted free of charge that sat urday night four u b professors will be on radio quiz the university of buffalo will take part in the quiz of two cities program over wben on saturday evening november 22 1941 this is an information pro gram between buffalo and roches ter it is so arranged that neith er tea mhears the replies of the other therefore each team is asked the same questions making the contest perfectly fair a bit ter rivalry exists between the two cities buffalo after having been badly defeated last year is lead ing in the present series the participants will be dr wlllard h bonner professor of english dr adelle h land as sociate professor of education dr olive p lester associate pro fessor of psychology and dr richard h williams assistant professor of sociology and anthro pology college students over the coun try are estimated to earn more than 32,000,000 a year sorority will collect toys for christmas christmas is a season of re joicing but there are some fami lies who because of their finan cial condition look forward to the holiday season not with joyful an ticipation but with fearful mis apprehension those who are more fortunate will enjoy their christmas even more if they know that they have helped their unfortunate brethren to have a happier christmas with this thought in mind phi psi sorority is sponsoring the collection of old toys which will be turned over the courier-ex press toy fund the toys need not be in good condition for the courier which annually collects thousands of toys for the poor families of buffalo will repair them the toys may be turned over to any members of phi psi sor ority at any time at carnival night november 20 eac hdonor will receive as his reward free refreshments the climax of the campaign will be a tea given the first week in december plans for kappa delt dance include music by d'amico the committee of kappa delta pal fraternity is now working hard to complete the plann for their third annual sweetheart dance the semi-formal affair will be held at the transit valley country club which has been re cently redecorated dancing will be from 10 p m until 2 a m hank d'amico western new york's sensational up-and,coming band has been definitely signed or the occasion one of the best clarinet players in the coun try he formerly played with rich ard himber and last year was featured with bob crosby play ing for the first time at a univer sity dance u'amico's sweet and subtle swing promises to be suitable for both hep-cats and t?t the sweetheart of kappa delta psi chosen at the dance by the members of the fraternity will be presented with a beautiful bracelet with the fraternity emb lem engraved upon it previous sweethearts have been miss judy law school student heads committee the committee for the j«nlor prom to be held in rnbruarjr 1942 has been selected by the board of managers matters from the arts college are pris tine gibson and dean stathacoe from business ad aline borowbik and coley macleod anaetto bentley and richard konllne from pharmacy norton bolt uulard fillmore joseph watson and sam goldberg law jane powell art school granville schnlte and donald stickney dent john don obue and robert collins med joseph watson will be commit tee chairman and christine jib son secretary average expenses of students at
