the bee vol 9 university of buffalo september 28 1928 no 2 carrick looks to successful season for gridiron squad team rounding into form for edinboro college conflict many veterans show up for daily practice with the opening football game of the season only one week away th liisuns are rapidly rounding int shape drill in the fundamentals ha now been augmented by light scrim mage designed to coordinate the men into a smooth working eleven coach carrick though encouraged by the showing of the squad urges the men to prompt and regular attendance at every practice session as the time is necessarily short in which he can whip the team into prime condition strenuous efforts will be the rule dur ing the next few days as the buys are all striving to get into the initial eon test the spirit of the university is de pendent upon the loyalty of the stu dent body toward the activities which arc carried on and without such spirit activities will soon die a natural death in the case of football the loyalty of the men who play the game is unques tioned for they give up a great deal of time in an endeavor to bring fame to the university they also take a great many hard knocks and run the risk of injury asking no personal rec ognition but only a display of loyalty on the part of the student body to the best of its ability this loyalty can be shown by attendance at every home football game it is a regrettable fact that in the past such support has been tacking but it is hoped that this year the slu dents will become infused with the new spirit which has caught the team anil will turn out anil do their part to help the football team become one worthy of the university the support given to the gridiron warriors should not be less than that accorded to the basketball team so there should be a crowd that will overflow the grandstand at rotary field to see the kick-off next saturday the blue and white gridders will face edinboro state teachers college the indications are that the game will be a hard fought tussle as last year edinboro made the enviable record of having been defeated only once the bisons will have no easy time in down ing them so be on
