the bee ' z-460 volume 29 number 3 o*jgg3r*,4s buffalo n y friday october 8 1948 inter-faith group planned administrative aid sought ' an inter-faith council is being planned by religious advisors and students from the roman catholic jewish and protestant faiths on the campus this council would provide a medium for the major faiths on the campus to study the religious needs and problems of the univer sity of buffalo recently a study was made by david riggs and clarence p shedd of yale university of the role of religion in the urban uni versity another study of the ad ministration of religion in col leges and universities in the united states was made by ed ward w blakeman robert o smith arid others from the univer sity of michigan both of these studies showed very clearly that the university of buffalo was doing less along religious lines than imost other universities of its size and type included in the studies in order that the university of buffalo may do more to meet the religious needs of the students it has been suggested that a faculty committee be appointed to do the type of work outlined in the con cluding statement of the report on the role of religion in the urban unlversity^-"the most important task for the uniersity is to make provisions for adequate study of the university's religious needs and program by a committee that will work on this problem over a period of years seeking to and more adequate ways of relating re ligion to the entire life of the uni versity rev robert o smith protestant religious advisor reported that university officials have taken the request to form such a committee under advisement and will decide whether it would be wise to set up such a committee k newton leads p i c discussion on postwar germany postwar germany an open discussion featured the first meet ing of the political issues club wednesday in the west room of norton hall mr george schultz temporary chairman began the meeting with an explanation of the people do not ap preciate what the allies are doing for them but rather feel that it is their duty to feed and protect the germans further the germans feel that the allies particularly he u s are in collaring the story on a proposed inter-faith council and a faculty committee to work with it we found that the prim ary question in the minds of both the religious advisors and the university officials involved was whether or not the student body actually felt the need of such a group further there was a question involving the possi ble number of students who would be benefitted by such an organization after its inception even though they had not or iginally felt any need for the group . hillel open house stars student talent saturday october 9 at 8:30 p.m is the time of hillel open
