self-government i t the college has been at last exected after two months of hard work on the part of the large and representative committee which should meet with the approval of the students there will be a convocation of all regular students of the college on wednesday february 24th at 9:30 in foster hall at which time the ma jority and minority reports will be submitted and objections and suggestions can be raised by the students it will then be sent to the s a c meeting tuesday march ist for approval and then sent back to the students for final ratification voting at that time will be by australian ballot and will not necessitate another student convocation it is highly desirable that the students study over the constitution herewith printed and bring it to the convocation on wednesday the constitution in brief provides all the regular students are to be organized into a student union the governing body of the student union is to be the board of councillors which is to be elected by the student union the officers of the board of councillors are to act as officers of the student union the student union will elect the president and vice-presi dent and the board of councillors will elect the secretary and the treasurer the student union is to meet four times a year the board every two weeks the most important and probably the only controversal point which the students will have to decide is where the legislative power is to be lodged the majority report argues that the legislative power including finan cial legislation should lie with the board of one year with privilege of re-election | entire campus in expectant mood as senior ball nears j hotel statler to be scene of breath taking > occasion 3 monday february the 22nd has , been set aside as university day with r suitable exerciseß having been planned 1 but the purpose of this article is to bring to the attention of the students ! the launching of what we all hope will embody itself in our university » program as an annual event — that of ! the first original senior ball t the freshmen have their frolics the sophomores have their hops the jun , iors have as their main source of pride the annual junior prom but , what have the seniors after all these years of planning and hoping the sen , iors are at last to be honored at a university-wide social function the l scene of this event has been set in . the ball room of the hotel statler a description of which would prove fruit less for undoubtedly everyone knows , the pleasing environment which this ball room affords the main source of , inspiration will be presented by the , music of the cross maggio's ten-piece como orchestra those who have heard the interpretation of the latest fox-trots and waltzes as given by this group will unanimously agree that it is a unique pleasure to dance to their offerings then at the chime of the l midnight bells the announcement that supper will be served in the grill room i will be given and what a glad tid ' ing this will be and when you par take of the food set before you i dare not even attempt to foretell the joy that will prevail but now comes , the most astonishing thing of all — what is the price for all this the answer is simple and small — four dollars can you imagine giving a dance from 9:30 to 2:00 with supper served at 12:00 for such a nominal sum the thought of the magnitude of this chance is all the more entic ing for just that reason and how can you honestly desist from attending but here is the secret of the whole thing to successfully accomplish this undertaking we must have sup port the support of every single in dividual in the university it is al most your duty to attend it is a way whereby you can in a small part honor the seniors who are leaving their alma mater for a business or profes sional career so much for that part of descrip tive analogy but i must further plead and impress the urgency of your sup port for this original undertaking it is not as though it were an annual event looked forward to and planned for such as the junior prom but that is just what we want to make it in the future the future of everything depends on the present the various senior presidents have charge of the tickets and are anxious to sell them for the sake of the university spirit don't wait until you are asked begged and teased to come but buy a ticket of your own free will and prove that you are a u b man of true spirit and character surely you can entertain no doubt but that you will be fully repaid the four dollars admission fee is very adversely commensurable to the actual amount of fun joy and frolic that you will derive from your attendance at the ball so student body let's show the sen iors alumni and faculty that we are behind them let's be out in full force and outnumber the seniors and alumni two to one and make this ball the finest and greatest of a precedent on which to base the future events of this character although the school year is more than one-half over it is not too late to get things moving for a swimming team at the university plans are being made and will shortly be laid before mr blackburn for the reorgan ization of the u b swimming team continued on page 2 u
