the bee vol 6 university of buffalo oct 23 1925 no 4 dr christian lange talks on the league of nations says no nation can consider affairs of another foreign germany's presence in league would necessitate disarmament dr christian lange's lecture last tuesday evening at townsend hall was the first to be given in the fenton foundation this year his lecture dealt with the league of nations problems after being introduced by chancel lor capen dr lange admirably pre sented his most timely subject no nation can consider the affairs of other nations as foreign this statement he proved because of its ultra importance not only to the na tions but also to the people of the nations he suggested disarmament in connection with this the league of nations he said is set up to achieve international peace and secur ity for that reason the league advo cates disarmament for all the nations wars generally start in moments of despair fear or possible attack in this case if the nations had no arms they could not be so easily forced into useless conflict in answer to the questions of vari ous ones in the audience he stated that if germany threatened the world peace it would be better to have that country within the league than out side at this point he asserted that the reduction of armaments does not ap pear in the document drawn up by the league but if germany should have the occasion to sit at the league the reduction of armaments would im mediately become an issue of great importance the very presence of germany in the assembly is bound to have its effect with this last state ment he concluded his interesting talk the league of nations pro motes and takes steps in the direction of the pacification of the world the audience expressed its gratitude for the fine lecture after which chan cellor capen stated that dr lange's was the most convincing testimony of the life of the league of nations men's glee club candidates as a result of the glee club try outs the appreciation of the old corner drug store was given to the public on tuesday october 20 by the second lecture of the faculty series dean gregory a pleasing speaker with a keen sense of humor was in troduced by dr shearer and immedi ately took the interest of his audience which he held throughout his talk objects of fascination about a drug store were explained and the symbol b seen on prescriptions was declared a pagan sign in fact an appeal to jupiter to bless the medicine it is a sign which has come down from past times when men had more faith in pagan gods than in the medicine of science the attitude of the general public towards the drug store is somewhat different from that towards the gro cery bakery or meat market since there is a professional element in the drug store which is lacking in the other places there also a certain amount of scientific information is dispensed gratis along with the ser vices of father-confessor for the tales a druggist is told are many and varied the technical side of the druggist's life was explained as well as the legal relation of the drug store to the state and nation pharmacy is the only profession controlled by a national syllabus along with this each municipality and state has a pharmacopoeia selected by physicians to standardize the formula after hearing dean gregory one realizes the truth of the slogan your druggist the eastern elevens bulls determined to avenge overwhelming defeat of last year buffalo meets the famous and power ful davis-elkins eleven of virginia at rotary field on saturday last year the varsity traveled to virginia and fell before the big team only after a courageous and disheart ening fight losing by the score of 48-0 it was almost certain that several of their team were not bona-fide stu dents at davis-elkins and these so called ringers were good it is hardly possible that these men will travel with davis-elkins this season so better results may be expected the difference between the northern and southern rules also handicapped our team and the game was stopped many times to discuss the questions but with little or no advantage to the bisons this season the west virginians bring one of the strongest teams in the south they were only beaten 6-0 by the powerful west virginia uni versity team which ranks with any college in the country they hold victories over juanita university and grove city college who decisively defeated our friends canlsius next week they play the army who last week defeated notre dame and if they can get on the schedule of the army they must be good their line averages 200 pounds and together with a powerful backfield compose a team that should be the biggest that has ever played on rotary field the varsity are out to avenge the robbery as they like to call it of last season and will fight to the last ditch and then in the ditch itself come out and let's show these west virginia coal miners how the coal strike should be broken bring on davis-elkins frosh and sophs bury the hatchet and join in successful dance the soph-frosh dance made a very happy and successful wlndup for the busy program of student activities day townsend hall looked very festive with its blue and white decorations and its sophomore and freshman ban ners the peppy music provided by the virginians and the floor notice ably improved by a liberal supply of wax were irresistible to the dancers myron roberts president of the sophomore class tossed packages of serpentine from the balcony above the stage to the crowd below there was a wild scramble — a great deal of fun followed later in the evening bill cook announced a paul jones dance in which everyone took part the girls were lined up on one side of the hall and the men on the other in the first part the girls were to walk boldly up to the men and choose their partners in the second part the men had thir chance needless to say the second part was far more successful and showed a great deal more
