gned as queen of homecoming y october 17 3ix contestants vied for the posi n gained by miss harris in an ction held in norton union oc the homecoming day parade teduled to begin at 10:15 a.m s delayed until 11:45 a.m a orated model t the entry of eta chi fraternity was awarded st prize as the most humorous try phi kappa psi fraternity rescnted by 15 entries won first ze for the organization having ) most vehicles entered theta i sorority was awarded the first ize for the best decorated entry a total of 70 automobiles partici ited in the parade the pep rally scheduled for the evious evening failed to mate jize western reserve's migration train was greeted by the salt & peppers in conjunction with miss harris and her court more than 800 students and faculty of west ern reserve attended the game in their initial migration day scheduled half time demonstra tions were cancelled when the re spective marching bands extended their presentations excluded were a freshman half time demonstra tion an address by mr charles persivel chairman of the alumni association in behalf of chancellor mcconnell presentation of the homecoming queen and her court and the awarding of the inter fra ternity sports trophy despite the shortened half time activities stan swarw chairman of the homecoming committee re ports the enthusiasm of the cheer ing was very evident an alumni dance at the hotel statler followed the game ifc ball to be held tonite two ub students win d bernard simon scholarship the university of buffalo has an nounced the names of the first two recipients of the recently-estab lished d bernard simon music scholarship they are robert c hughes son of mr and mrs henry s hughes of 341 ivyhurst road snyder new york and francis e park son of mr and mrs frank park of 44 lyman street brock port new york each will re ceive a 300 scholarship to help further their studies in the uni versity's music department mr hughes graduated from am herst central high school where he was a member of the national honor society president of the amherst central high school band and vice-president of the orchestra at u.b he is a sophomore in the college of arts and sciences and a member of the university's band and choir mr park graduated from brock port high school and was presi dent of the high school orchestra there he has attended fredonia state teachers college and hobart college and is now enrolled as a junior in the college of arts and sciences at u.b the scholarship fund was estab lished in memory of the late d bernard simon buffalo lawyer and businessman by friends and rela tives the total amount of the fund to date is 8,574.93 this includes private contributions and also pro ceeds from the victor borge bene fit concert held september 15 awards will be made annually to students both men and women who are entering the department of music at the university or are al ready enrolled selection will be made by the university scholar ship committee in cooperation with the d bernard simon scholarship committee of which cameron baird head of the music depart ment is chairman campus sororities enter queen candidates,winner to be selected tonight the i f c ball will be held tonight in the mary seaton room of kleinhans music hall from 9:00 p.m to 1:00 a.m the highlight of the evening will be the selection of the i f c queen each of the sororities on campus have entered a candidate for the position the queen will be selected on the basis of poise charm and personality this year the candidate selected as queen will be presented with a i cup which will become the prop erty of her sorority for one year the cup will be engraved with the name of the winning candidate and the name of her sorority as is the custom several fra ternities will hold prc-dance par ties alpha kappa psi has planned theirs at the home of art goodreds phi kappa psi beta sigma rho and theta chi have scheduled a joint party in kleinhans sigma alpha nu at the home of richard ursitti kappa sigma kappa at vince's castle house these par ties have an integral part in the ball various fraternity banners will be displayed in the mary seaton room and fraternity songs are scheduled to be sung during the evening many of the campus notable ex pect to be present dr deeringer dean of student at the university of buffalo will act as faculty host i f c advisor mr r a grat wick will also be present ( the proceeds of thc dance will \ be apportioned as follows part will be placed in a scholarship fund for the support of a greek student in athenes the remainder will be distributed to charitable or ganizations throughout the buffalo area the i f c ball which is usu ally held the second semester is being held the first this year because of the crowded second se mester calendar eddie diem and his orchestra will provide the music this evening of enjoyment is open to any and all university of buffalo students the price of admission is 2.40 per couple the dance is semi-formal no corsage needed the ball is under the co-chair manship of dale baker and rich ard dobkins harvest dance to be held in clark gym october 30 the dance committee is hard at work preparing for the harvest dance to be held on friday octo ber 30 from 9 until 12 at clark gymnasium bill cunius is general chairman of the affair with the following committee chairmen carol hey orchestra marilyn cul kowski publicity sally barber jean seaward decorations barb simpson refreshments ann bar ber door mary ann milani dave hower checking john allen clean-up the theme of the dance will re volve around a sadie hawkins day race starting from norton union at noon on thc day of the dance the end of the race will be high lighted by a mass mock marriage ceremony in norton lobby tickets for the dance will cost 25 and be available at the door on the night of the dance the gym will be decorated in dogpatch style and cider and doughnuts will be served during intermission dress will be very informal sweaters jeans etc in keeping with the rustic theme of the dance world universities is theme of karnival the second annual kampus karnival will be held in clark gymnasium november 13 a total of 50 in cash prizes will be awarded to organizations participating in the kampus karni val november 13 the awards of 25-$15-$10 will be donated by posmantur's men's clothes bill cunius chairman of the kampus karnival publicity committee announced today the presentations will be made on the basis of originality con struction and appearance the theme of this year's karnival is world universities the profits of the participating groups will be split 25 to the world university fund the re mainder to the organizations seniors senior pictures are being tak en this week and next anyone who failed to get an appoint ment stop at rooom 305 to be scheduled this will be your last opportunity to get your picture in the 1954 buffalonian attention students selective service exams to be held nov 19 1953
