election challenged deprived of vote 8 say the mud queen election in the law school was questioned today by thomas h rosinski president ot the student bar association in a letter to the spectrum mr rosin ski said an honest election was not held a bigned statement by eight law students who stated they were de prived of their vote was also re ceived by the spectrum when shown mr rosinski's let ter appearing in today's letters to the editor column the election com mittee said elections involve simple mathe matics facts are facts numbers are numbers the facts in regard to the law school situation have failed to change the numbers nobody has proved or disproved anything the outcome of the elec tion would still be the same with out the law school vote the spectrum editorial board has forwarded both the statement and letter to carl golanski president of the board of managers san joins tke national group by john curtis formal dinner is planned the brothers of sigma alpha nu fraternity have elected to become a tau kappa epsilon international fraternity chapter this will take effect at the installation during this may weekend organized july 5 1945 by seven veterans san has grown with the school until finally its peak as a local fraternity was reached this year since its founding the members of sigma alpha nu have professed to a principle of non-discrimination as is stated in their constitution and have practiced this as has been shown in its membership through out the years tke was chosen because it like the local fraternity boasts the same non-discriminatory clause tau kappa epsilon is the third largest national fraternity in the united states at present there are about one hundred and thirty-five active chapters throughout the country located in forty-two of the forty-eight states tke also has chapters in canada making it an international organization a gala weekend is planned for the initiation tonight a beer blast has been planned tomorrow night a formal dance will be held with refreshments highlighting this most important occasion in san's history will be a formal dinner at which chancellor furnas will be guest of honor the wain speaker will be lloyd s coch ran chairman of the national in tra-fraternity council all tke chapters in the area and area alum ni have been invited although it will be known by a new name san as tke will con tinue its ideals and traditions the semi-annual san blasts san scholarship and active participa tion in all campus activities will go on as they have in the past as a national fraternity san hopes to further the feeling of true brotherhood the goals of the ifc and better serve the university and the community the mud hoot makers and friends braved saturday's threatening rain for the award presentations spring in an all-out drive to attract american college students to a 6th world youth festival the big build-up started shortly after christmas when the spec trum received new year's cards and letters from peiping china urging it to get culture this was followed by a series of pamphlets letters and books ask ing the ub students to participate in athletics chess art and possibly hog-calling contests in russia since the spectrum office was unsuited for shotput practice and the weather outside was poor the athletic booklets were circular filed however three weeks ago a let ter was received from chicago with the same letterhead as the china material written by a miss bar bara perry it enclosed an adver tisement for the moscow festival and a check drawn on a chicago bank to pay for the ad it seems that buffalo was not alone in its attention by miss per ry fordham reported four invi tations to moscow ccny's student council weighed the advißaibility of sending an observer to the festival ' and decided to discourage moscow 1 traveling ' queens college received a poster ' advertising the moscow festival as 1 did üb the poster was tacked up on a wall as a joke a queens theta chi and sig ep win top mud float awards mankind's first breath almost found itself snuffed out as the mud floats rolled past the reviewing stand last satur day a ballast line broke in front of the stand . . . causing the superstructure of the beta sigma rho entry to topple the pledges inside were not injured newton's first law by sigma « phi epsilon took first place in the overall division the other honors
