met with unprecedented success highlights this year's home concert and ball with his unique and danceable music capen mruk hayes will headline cl conference a drama more potent than any play ever penned will be unfolded on the norton stage friday when the vital issue of civil liberties will be presented in all its rami fications at a conference sponsored by the students of the university of buffalo on april 20 some of the most noted names in the buffalo area will highlight the discussions com prising the civil liberties confer ence joseph mruk mayor of buf falo will open the afternoon ses sion at 1:45 followed by the key note address by charles s des mond associate justice of the new york court of appeals the first group of three panel discussions will begin at 2:30 civil liberties a religious issue will be covered by william heath rector of trinity church and robert brill of the council of churches student mod erator lawrence lannacone will lead the panel clarence maloney former assistant attorney gen eral of new york and charles livermore executive director of the buffalo board of community relations will give their views on civil liberties as a minority groups problem the labor panel will fea ture edward gray of the uaw cio and joseph shisler chairman of the university's industrial re lations department claude d clapp and roger mcneill will be the student moderators of these discussions at 4:15 the second series of groups will meet of special in terest to buffalo students will be the education panel which will boast chancellor emeritus samuel capen and barton bean popular government instructor the legis lator's role in protecting civil lib erties will be interpreted by justin morgan chairman of the n y assembly judiciary committee and david diamond noted area at torney at the same time the di lemma of police protection vs civil liberties will try to be solved by john leach former f.8.1 agent and jay barnsdall outstanding buffalo attorney the education state legislation and police panels will be moderated by students david mix thomas troy and clif ford douglas respectively the evening session of the con ference beginning at 8:00 p.m will offer an address by arthur garfield hays general counsel of the american civil liberties union of new york city the reputation which mr hays enjoys has pre ceded him and his presence adds great prestige to the conference if any more were needed thirty campus organizations in eluding fraternities sororities and independent groups have contribu ted as patrons to this conference and many individual students and faculty have lent their support in money time and interest the event is unique in the expe rience of buffalo students and it is hoped that it will receive the com plete support of the student body do big apple to tune of margie at movie-dance an attractive evening of enter tainment and dancing is being of fered in the movie-dance margie slated for thursday april 19 at 7:30 p.m in norton auditorium many think that they have com pletely recaptured the spirit of the roaring twenties when they have mastered the charleston this is absurd for one of the most vital elements of this decade has remain ed unknown the movie and dance committees have combined their ef forts to revive this fad the big apple and it will be taught by carol caldwell after the showing of margie miss caldwell is known to many students as the at tractive teacher at the regular tuesday night dance sessions to completely recreate the spirit of that infamous era of boot leg ging and the hourglass figure can died apples will be on sale plans for this evening are in the capable hands of shiela hynes and dolores blackman glee club springs surprise of season with concert ball statler ballroom background for prima band tickets now on sale for annual home concert as an added attraction at the annual home concert and ball of april 20 the glee club is bringing to buffalo from new york one of the nation's top dance orchestras louis prima and ensemble mr prima known for his first class novelty arrangements is out to make a name for himself as being able to play smooth danceable and interesting music during his re cent engagement in buffalo the composer of such songs as oh babe thousand island song and this evening his latest hit received tremendous aclaim for his musical prowess the annual home concert has always ranked second only to the junior prom in its importance as a social event from all indica tions this year's affair in the main ballroom of the hotel statler will live up to its reputation the choral ensemble of sixty voices will present an interesting and var ied program ranging from the classics to the popular field such numbers as the pilgrim's chorus from tannhauser and enesco's hungarian rhapsody will suit the lovers of the classics and numbers by victor herbert and sigmund romberg will have a more univer sal appeal banners and flags around the stat ler balcony and special sections will be reserved for them informal dress and the precedent set by the junior prom committee of no corsages will keep costs at a minimum concert tickets are 75 and combination concert and ball tickets are 3.60 all this adds up to an evening of fun and fine entertainment began career at twelve louis prima whose orchestra is featured at the dance is an estab lished favorite with dancers the country over besides being one of america's top show men prima is also turning his outfit into an ex cellent dance orchestra since he began his musical career in new orleans at the age of twelve lead ing a ten-piece band which called themselves the little collegiates prima has gone on to unprece dented success the formula for which being good solid music plus an entertaining personality louis prima plays what the people want to hear and in addition puts on a terrific show the concert and ball committee headed by general chairman don holzman is as follows ticket chairman chuck harrigan pub licity chairman joan kohl patron co-chairmen jean brock and elea nor wood arrangements chair man mary lou houck and print ing chairman al tesluok medical reunion added attraction of clinical day recent advances in medical sci ence will be described by six out standing authorities at the 14th annual clinical day of the uni versity of buffalo medical alumni association saturday in hotel statler all physicians as well as alumni members have been invited to the morning and afternoon sessions a broad series of scientific exhibits will be set up in connection with the meeting on saturday evening five-year reunions of the classes of 1891 1896 1901 1906 1911 1916 1921 1926 1931 1936 1941 and 1946 will be held the saturday morning program beginning at 10 o'clock will be conducted by dr grosvenor w bissell who is secretary-treasurer of the medical alumni association the following papers then will be presented : medical aspects of a-bomb de fense by dr berwyn f matti son assistant professor of public health and preventive medicine at the university fat in parenteral nutrition by dr frederick j stare profes sor of nutrition at the harvard medical school some cardiovascular and gas trointestinal interrelationships by dr henry l reckus professor and chairman of the department of medicine at the university of pennsylvania graduate school of medicine a short business meeting and election of officers will be held at 12 o'clock dr joseph d godfrey president of the alumni associa tion will preside chancellor t raymond mccon nell of the university will be in troduced after the luncheon the afternoon scientific session will be conducted by dr frederick g stoesser vice-president ef the alumni association the following papers will be presented general principles in the man agement of fracture problems by dr george eaton assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at johns hopkins university rehabilitation of the hemiple gic patient by dr morton marks director of neurological re search in the department of physi cal medicine and rehabilitation at new york university bellevue medical center the present status of acth and cortisone in general medi cine by dr thomas f frawley assistant professor of medicine at the albany medical school college songs featured although the concert will last for only an hour and a half a full program unmarred by intermis sions will be presented dancing will follow until 2:00 a.m this dual program consisting of a con cert and dance was particularly arranged to suit the parents of those students who wish to view first hand the extra-curricular events sponsored by this univer sity a great reflection on the spirit prevalent at u.b will be that special part of the concert program devoted to the singing of fraternity and sorority songs there is something nostalgic and typical of college life in this ex pressive music the various cam pus organizations will display their drink and dunk today from norton demitasse this afternoon under the chair manship of betty mckenica the norton union mixer committee will hold the first coffee hour of the semester as in the past cof fee and doughnuts will be served from 3:00 to 5:00 in the west room and the annex before going off to your favorite spot for friday afternoon's liquid refreshment drop in for a spot of coffee waves offered as escape route for senior women breathes there a woman who knows exactly what she's going to do after graduation we thought not with june and graduation leer ing at senior women from just around the corner it seems an op portune moment to offer a hint or two on what the future can hold for you with this in mind chief petty officer schulenberg of the wave recruiting office has made arrangements to be in hayes 172 from nine to twelve tuesday morn ing april 17 to interview and in form u.b upperclass women on their possible future with this or ganization well it's an idea basketball practice one week of spring basketball practice has been cheduled by coach eiken for all potential var sity men from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m on april 23 to april 27 all interested men should
