the spectrum complete ampus overage volume 10 university of buffalo friday october 2 1959 no 2 bulls seek to slay red dragons joe oliverio likely to start at q b by matt winick the university of buffalo football bulls will make their first home appearance of the season tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 when they meet the red dragons of cortland state at rotary field both teams were victorious in their opening games last saturday ub defeated temple 28-14 while the teachers outscored alfred 12-2 buffalo coach dick offenha mer was undecided about his starting quarterback but hint ed the nod may go to junior joe oliverio on the basis of his fine performance both offensively and defensively in the temple encounter when fall drills began on sept 1 there was a great deal of talk that sophomore gene guerrie would wrestle the signal-calling spot away from gordie bukaty little was said about oliverio however oliverio has worked hard and has moved right into the thick of the battle so that there is now a three-way fight for the start ing assignment it may also be remembered that oliverio threw three touchdown passes in the blue-white scrimmage at the close of spring practice in may there may also be another change in the bulls starting backfield bill brogran a full back the past two seasons im pressed everyone with his fine running from the right half back spot and appears to have earned his berth on the first team ahead of skip maue with brogran in the lineup ub will have its top punter in the game against temple brogan's first punt sailed 63 yards from the line of scrimmage and went far over the head of the owls safety men left halfback willie evans the leading ground gainer of 1958 and fullback tom macdougall will com plete the starting quartet half backs wes wertman steve salas ny and paul szymendera and full back gerry gergley will also see plenty of action as the new liberal substitution rule makes it much easier to change personnel the starting line will remain intact it will have bob adams and carley keats ends co capt sam sanders and george delaney tackles co-capt stan kowalski and joe shlfflet guards and ray paolini at center bill sclent and nate bliss will be the ends on the second unit with bernie fagan and jack demp sey at tackles and phil bamford and bob yanchuck at guards tbe center slot will be manned by i.u cian lodestro or chuck scott who has recently recovered from a calf injury which sidelined him in the temple game by cortland though he felt they may have been looking by alfred while thinking about buffalo and held back some of their offense laßocque emphasized they are big and rough with more speed and better depth than the team which we defeated 7-6 last year however continued la rocque they don't have aa much experience as last year's team and have many sopho mores in the lineup cortland coach chugger davis is expected to open with senior gene fitzpatrick at quarterback fred kirschenheiter and ron riccio the leading ground gainer against al fred will be the halfbacks with ed polanis at fullback tom decker will see plenty of action as a replacement for fitz patrick while bob hotter is slated for duty behind polanis steve gold frank morris gary dilling ham and bob zigrossl will be used at the halfback spots cortland's line will be led by 265-lb center bill perry guard dom copozzi a punter with a 40 yard average and tackle bob mi ner who also plays fullback and linebacker ron daßocque who along with dave brogan scouted the lied dra gons against alfred was impressed joe oliverio senate to vote on university of buffalo following president procas protest 1 — that an annual report be sent to all the member schools of the region twice a year reporting the administration's financial situ ation 2 — dr furnas speaks to launch senate advisory sessions the student association execu tive committee in collaboration with dean siggelkow and miss dorothy haas have planned a series of monthly meetings with some of the members of the administration who can bring to student leaders many aspects of university goals this committee's first meeting held last friday had dr furnas as tho main speaker dr furnas speaking appropriate ly on the development of education throughout the years told of the role the university must play in its stick those stickers car drivers take heed if you are going to drive your car to the game tomorrow be sure your school sticker is stuck where it's to be stuck and be sure it's stuck well or you'll get stuck and really stuck well dr puffer's office reports 50 cents must be paid by each car not having a student sticker for parking in the lots during the karnes if you have your stick er then it's the straight stud ent fee of ten cents student i-d cards will mean nothing to the officials who will be guard ing and collecting at tho park ing lots of course you'll need your cards for admittance to the game but for parking be sure you have your stickers therefore all visitors will be required to pay a parking fee of 50 cents the officials feel this is fair enough since a visitor would probably have to pay at least that much to park anywhere else for that length of time students should leave the parking lot and enter the east stands through the gate near est dailey aye no students will bo admitted elsewhere cooke to elect new representatives the girls in cooke hall will elect two corridor representatives tuesday night these girls will have the responsibility of repre senting their floor and inter-resi dence government and of helping to
