2_qut-of to-rt p 2f>c i i vets fund drive for jobs counseling on matching grants promised hope is to stimulate participation a study of new york city's veterans of the war in vietnam has revealed that blacks and hispanics and those who saw heavy combat in vietnam are far more likely to have been afflicted by a variety of serious problems with jobs their families and personal stress the study found these groups of veterans are far more likely to be out of work or underemployed and also subject to night mares drinking problems divorces and arrests this encyclopedia of social problems revealed ten years after the u s ended its involvement in hostilities in vietnam comes out of a report prepared by the ralph bunche institute of city university for the vietnam veterans memorial com mission ivvmc the commission sper headed the building of the vietnam veterans me morial unveiled on mon day in lower manhattan and the ticker tape parade on tuesday attempting to raise 2 million for the memorial and for a jobs training and counseling center the commission was promised a 1-million matching grant by donald trump the real estate magnate to encourage participation by private citizens and local businesses to encourage private donations further philip morris usa has promised a matching grant of 250,000 for contributions sent to the vietnam memorial c/o philip morris 120 park avenue new york n y 10017 a contributions sent through philip morris would be matched by that firm and the total amount would then be matched by tlse trump challenge grant pentagon statistics have shown that blacks and hispanics served in com bat units in vietnam in numbers that far exceeded their percentages in the american population correspondents in vietnam have reported on extensive black and hispanic participation in marine and infantry rifle companies and especially in strike forces like the 173 rd airborne the vvmc study esti mated that there were about 150,000 veterans of the war in vietnam in new york city among other findings the vvmc study revealed that the black nfta to hold grand opening it's finally here the dawn of a new era in transportation nfta metro rail will hold its grand
