alerts consumers to used car lemon law consumer outreach in erie county announced attorney general rob ert abrams advises con sumers who purchase a used car after november 1 1984 that they will have important new pro tection provided by the used car lemon law if the used car they purchase turns out to be defective consumers who have encountered any sort of consumer-related prob lems should take advan tage of attorney general robert abrams consumer outreach program which meets as follows in buffalo on the third thursday at the 1490 senior citizen center at 2 p.m at 1490 jefferson aye and also at 5 p.m the next scheduled visit will be thursday dec 20th at which time assis tant attorney general veronica thomas will be present to discuss and offer advice on any type of consumer complaint under the used car lemon law a consumer receives a warranty relat ed to the mileage of the car they buy 30 days or 1,000 miles on a car with over 36,000 miles 60 days or 3,000 miles on a car with under 36,000 miles the warranty covers most essential mechanical components including engine transmission drive axle brakes steer ing starter ignition and radiator attorney general abrams said the new law will require the dealer to repair certain defects in the car or reimburse the consumer for the reasonable cost of the repair if the defect is not conected after three or more repair attempt or the car is out of service for a cumulative total of fifteen days during the warranty period the deal er must refund the car's full purchase price the consumer and the dealer may agree on a comparable used car re placement and deal are allowed an extra 30 days to fix the defect if the repair parts are unavailable the lemon law for used cars exempts classic cars and cars sold for less than 1,500 private sales between individuals are also not included this program is con ducted as a monthly service of the attorney general's office of new york sate nfta to hold graduation for non-ranking police pfficers the niagara frontier transportation authority announces the graduation of its first class of all non-ranking police officers of the newly formed niagara frontier transit authority pouce dept the ceremony will take place on sat dec bth at 2 p.m in the fine arts auditorium at niagara county college samborn n y this particular gradu ating class is unique among all others to gradu ate for a number of reasons 1 the niagara frontier transit authority pouce dept itself is newly established it began operation on jan 9th so the dept is not yet even one year old chief of the transit authority lt katherine robin son six sergeants and prior to graduation the 69 recruits 2 the recruits who range in age from 21-48 make this graduating class the largest in the history of the niagara county law engorcement academy it is anticipated that over 450 guests will be in atten dance for the graduation ceremony 3 finally as captain james e gray co-direc tor of the niagara county law enforcement acad emy stated this is the only time i can ever remember an entire police department being trained nt one time i've never neard of it happening her before nor anywhere else in the state gram for the cere mony will include the welcome address given by dr donald donate president of niagara county community col lege keynote speaker willbe supreme court jus tice edgar m nemoyer training of the recruits began in september un der the instruction of captain gray and ser geant gary w hacker co-directors of the ni agara county law en forcement academy in addition to the standard course given to all poten tial police officers captain gray and sergeant hacker covered topics that dealt specifically with transit systems after graduation every candidate will be certified by the new york state division of criminal jus tice as police officer transit authority police officers will receive 14 750 a year and will work 40 hours a week on a 24-hour basic patrolling the trains surface and subway por tions of additionally the cham ber is extending a courtesy to the 100 black leaders reception honoring leroy r coles jr president of the buffalo urban league to avoid placing burdens on those who may have chairman of the new york state assembly commit tee for the 146 th district mr gorski a native of buffalo attended our lady of czestichowa ele mentary and bishop ti mon high schools he graduated from lcmoyne college in syracuse with a bachelor of arts degree in english literature he then enlisted in the united states marine corps served as a captain and was stationed in vietnam from 1967 to 1969 in 1971 mr gorski worked as an administra tive assistant to former supreme court justice arthur goldberg and commenced his political career with his election to the erie county legisla ture in 1972 currently he serves as chairman of the assembly committee on oversight analysis and investigation and is recognized for his notable accomplishments as state assemblyman he is also acredited with the effort to change the location of the empire state games from syra cuse to buffalo in 1985 and 1986 involved in a number of civic and community organizations in 1974 mr gorski was named citizen of the
