cathe dral and chairman of the buffalo beautiful commit tee of the buffalo area chamber of commerce the buffalo beautiful committee each year awards honors to those firms and organizations that have contributed to western new york's quality of life by maintain ing their facilities in a tasteful well-kept and attractive manner adults wanted everyone knows how important girl scouting is or do they today's girl scouts are preparing for the expanded roles women can play in society dis covering new worlds and creating new roles finding new worlds in girl scouting begins with the individual girl working at her own level and pace girls involved in scout ing widen their horizons they travel to foreign countries or around the block serve their commu nities and the less fortu nate learn about careers gain a respect for the outdoors and learn to be caring adults girl scouting is now in a unique position over the past decades we've seen a large number of other organizations and institu tions become co-educa tional but girl scouting has chosen to direct its total resources for devel oping a stronger role in society for girls and the women they are about to become girl scouts work in what it is don't you believe it by william t.watson yes four more years of president reagan's tric kle down theory has been decided upon by the majority of american voters and just maybe by the end of hopefully appreciably before presi dent reagan's final term of office the trickle will have finally run its course and reached those who devastatingly hopeless have been awaiting its positive effect since the better part of the presi dent's first term of office it was strange and it remains strange how the news networks the media in general attributed to the history making victory of president reagan much more than less to the sole factor of the majority of white voters no longer being sensitive to the social ills of this nation's blacks and poor whites and that lack of sensitivity was so strong as to generate a response to intense as to override u_y consideration of rea gan's record concerning foreign policy — with hundreds of our soldiers dead and with the nation as a whole with million upon millions under im minent threat of a nuclear strike \ a response so great again as to override the negatives of reagan's record domestically — with the federal budget and trade deficit at record breaking levels threatening the livelihood of million upon millions no don't believe it or let it be said that's bull mondale's exclaiming the sufferings of this nation's less fortunate cannot and was not the major reason for his most unsuccessful bid for the white house mondale was just too wishy-washy a fact most blacks publicly and pri vately would not admit for just as mondale never could have won with , rev jackson as a running | mate he mondale should have reasoned the same where mrs ferraro was concerned — the only person who failed to carry her home state mon dale's making the point that he would raise the working classes taxes under the circumstances was pure insanity the bottom line is that for the good for for the worst the people of this country believe that we need a president they can preceive as being strong mondale while trying to project sensitivity hon esty and fairness was considered to be weak while reagan on the other hand pressed how he had and would continue to stand up for america and though i could not vote for reagan i even agree that this is not time for this nation to have a wishy-washy-insipid guy kicking up his feet in the white house a point to keep in mind it is not that sensitivity honesty and fairness ara not to be traces found in a president but they more or less should be the conscience of a president that is yet preceived as strong this being the obvious fault in president reagan and not so liberal as to be unrealistic and naive but the democratic par ty and republican party as well at all cost remember that more than thirty-six million people still cast their vote to the weak-wish-washy-nice guy praying and hoping for peace on earth that is an excellent base from which to re-work and their belief in or desire for a more beautiful and safe america are not to be ignored now or ever adults wanted see page 4 . . . price only 20c per copy
