buffalo she has been a member of the greater friendship baptist church since 1926 and is the co-chairman of the board of trustees she is a member of the foreign mission chair man of the betty moss missionary circle vice president of the mother's board a member of the benevolent aid society a member of the general missionary society a member of the friendship credit union and is chairman of ihe friend ship social workers mrs craig is now and has been president of the mas choir since it was organized in 1964 shi is president of the women's auxiliary of the western baptist assoc second vice annual conference oct 3-5 at the sheraton inn buffalo east in buffalo founded in 1974 the aaaa is a national and professional associaiton for equal opportunity affirmative action adminis trators and bench a class action lawsuit against all of the judges of the new york state court of appeals and the board of elections of erie coun ty n v has just been filed with the united states district court for the eastern district of new york in brooklyn n y the suit is seeking to overturn the ruling of the court of appeals on march 29 1984 removing former buffalo city court judge barbara m sims from her elected position after the new york state commis sion on judicial conduct had recommended that she be censured because she had signed ten bail release orders in criminal cases in which her lawyer husband later represented the defendants in ques tion the class plaintiffs are all erie county voters who cast their ballots for judge sims the only black woman judge in the state of new york outside of new york city at the gmnmrat t'-w-fie a uven vember 1978 they include black white and hispanic persons and they are seeking along with judge sims to enjoin the upcoming general elec tion in erie county insofar as the seat formerly occupied by her is con cerned until the determin ation of this lawsuit plaintiffs believe that this is the first lawsuit of its type in the country and that it involves fundamen tal and bedrock issues of constitutional law the litigation is con-sponsored by the national associa tion for the advancement of colored people naacp the national conference of black law yers ncbl and the center for constitutional rights ccr the attorneys involved are william m kunstler and betty lawrence bailey ccr herbert h henderson and george e hairston naacp hay wood burns esq and margaret burnham ncbl and scott rod man following the filing of the lawsuit it is expected that a motion will be brought to enjoin the general election in erie county as indicated above commencing next week the complete text of the complaint filed in the district court will be serialized coors & black community sign trade agreement denver colo — after five months of continuous negotiations between representatives of a na tional black economic development coalition and adolph coors com pany a national incentive covenant aimed at provid ing optimal economic op portunity between the nation's fifth largest brew er and the black commu nity was signed in den ver colo chairing th historic commission on economi development within the black community were heads of economic devel opment for the nation's largest civil rights organi zations the national assoc for the advance ment of colored people naacp and people united to save humanity push this agreement calls for coor to increase its level of black employment in terms of upward mobility for current employees and the stepped-up recruit ment of more blacks for employment bring about black involvement in the formation of policy from upper management to the board of directors sub stantially increase black ownership of coors distri butorships throughout the country including thr capi tal assistance needed to insure success in owner ship initiation of the most aggressive utilization of black suppliers and ven ders as part of a new attitude on purchasing from within the black com munity in all areas of purchasing retain the services of black profes sionals in all aspects where outside professional services are needed in vest in black-owned banks and savings and loan associations in all areas of banking and investments purchase major insurance coverage from black-own ed insurance companies and brokers expand spending with black-own ed advertising marketing public relations and com munications agencies in cluding major expendi tures with black-owned media entities and to re-commit significant cor porate resources as contri butions and support for the black community and its organizations peter coors division president of adolph coors co in highlighting the importance of his historic agreement stated we at coors believe in working together to achieve suc cess and then in the sharing of that success by returning a fair share of our income to the black community we will endeavor to obtain a 10 percent level of our annual volumn and potential from the black community as the benefits of this covenant are realized and coor's business with the black community increases the percent will go beyond 10 percent fred rasheed director of economic development for the naacp and co chairman of the coalition called this covenant a significant step by the adolph coors company to provide a fair share of its economic opportunities to black americans and moore appointed interim director of eoc muriel a moore has been appointed to a one-year term as interim director of the state uni versity at buffalo's educa tional opportunity center the appointment was made by ub president steven b sample upon the recommendation of william r greiner pro vost the center located at 465 washington st con ducts programs which assist economically and educationally disadvan taged students over 18 years of age a graduate of richmond college and üb moore previously served as direc tor f 1 i learning center and be fore that as a family counselor and child care worker and instructor in staten island she was recipient of an outstanding service award from the ub foundation inc for her major role in the develop ment of the learning center and also was citied by üb's educational opportunity program for service to that unit parker graduates from school of bank administration charles c parker as sistant auditor at empire of america has graduated from the school for bank administration it was announced uled for oct 16-19 in new york's grand hyatt hotel some of the others scheduled to make presen tations at the convention are martha seger governor of the federal reserve board anthony solomon president of the new york federal reserve bank vincent tese supt of banking n y state kenneth upper deputy mayor of new york city for finance and economic development and john jacob president of the national urban league a veteran civil rights activist mr jackson was unsuccessful in his quest for the democratic nomin ation for presideni of the united states earlier this year but his activities have been credited with heightening the interests of many blacks and others in political partici pation sen trible is a member of the u s senate banking committee founded in 1927 as the trade organization for america's minority-own ed commercial banks the association's 53 member institutions located in 68 cities employs more than 5,000 persons and manage the invested deposits of more than 1.5 million customers owned by blacks his panics asians and by native americans these commercial banks — which should not be confused with minority owned savings and loan associations — have more than 4-billion in combin ed assets the nba has been active during recent years in securing deposits for minority commercial banks from more than 200 of the fortune 500 companies and this activi ty
