income of the 9th richest nation in the world the total income for the average black family is 53 percent of that of the average white american family the average american wage earner saves 4 percent of his annual income while the average black american saves only one percent of his income let us spend wisely and save more 1 dramatize the power of the black consumer 2 impress local and national businesses — as well as the black commu nity with the importance of the black spending power mayor young endorses hosea williams for congress if anyone can change congress hosea williams is the man said atlanta mayor andrew young when questioned about his en dorsement of long-time civil rights leader and georgia state representative young and williams were two of dr martin luther king jr key men in the inner circle of sclc in the days of demonstrations and marches in birmingham st augustine selma mont gomery and throughout the south the congress said mayor young is an old boys club - staid cautious everyone trying to be re spectable most people who go to congress play the game by the rules - just happy to hang on to their jobs but you can't make a difference in congress and be respectable and hosea hat never been concerned about being respectable he fights for what he believes in - and he just won't stop more than any of the others in dr king's inner circle mayor young said congress atlanta — mrs coretta scott king president of the martin luther king jr center for nonviolent social change inc fri day congratulated the united states congress for the passage of legislation to establish a natinal com mission to assist in the first observance of the federal legal holiday hon oring martin luther king jr on the third monday in 1986 the legislation passed both houses of the congress last week by a unanimous vote and now awaits the president's signature mrs king thanked the members of the congress for responding so quickly to her request for the establishment of such a bipartisan commisison which would encourage appropriate ceremonies and activities throughout the united states relating to the first observance of the federal legal holiday honoring dr king which occurs on january 20 1986 mrs kings said that the congress acted in the spirit of the man for whom skss v.xa-.viu is named in putting aside partisan interests in order to make the holiday substantial build the auc iritim station the station which is the first of the six stations to be built will feature a sports related theme to compliment its location next to the me morial auditorium which is a buffalo center of sports activity the construction is scheduled to be completed in the late summer of 1985 the pedestrian transit mall stretching from scott st and main to goodell and main is scheduled to be completed i the summer of 1986 the mall has an estimated total construction cost of approximately 42 million dollars located through out the mall will be five other surface stations besides the aud station they are the seneca st station the church st station lafayette square station the huron st station and the theatre station the lafayette square station and huron st station have already been putting out to bid with the cowper co being the apparent low bidder at this time the design of the mall is based on a tried and proven concept found in european cities which incorporates vehicular free-pedestrian right of way areas which are land scaped to create a parklike setting to give the environ ment a sense of quiet beauty and security mr latona said this groundbreaking means so much to this city because it marks the beginning of the end of buffalo's central city as it has been for the last ten years a new modern 21st centura cen tral city business
