the erie county sheriff's dept sgt robinson died tuesday apr 4 1984 in buffalo general hospi tal sgt robinson was an 11-year veteran of the sheriff's dept he was in harge of the rath county jffice junty proclamation for esigning the first sher of's department flag he also received several awards including two department commenda tion ribbons and a unit citation sgt robinson was born in white plains and came to buffalo with his parents as an infant he earned a bachelor's degree in criminology at the state sgt brian robinson pastor robert timberlake was guest speaker president william j owens introduced guest speaker pastor robert timberlake executive di rector of the buffalo city mission since 1977 at the tri-zone club meeting wednesday at the casi mer pulaski post pastor bob is also president of the niagara district of the internation al union of gospel mis sions comprising 30 mis sions with a radius of 600 miles he graduated from the new brunswick bible a institute in canada and is a native of the state of maine his first mission assignment was bangla desh asia he was made citizen of the year 1982 by the buffalo news he is married the father of four children he and his wife suzanne reside in the buffalo area pastor timberlake said the city mission was founded in 1917 at the ashford methodist epis copal church on chip pewa and pearl sts marine midland launches small business seminars stressing that marine's goal is to help foster more jobs in the buffalo area regional executive vice president stephen c ames presided over open ing ceremonies marking the lythle hitchcock blame hub er erie county industrial development agency and the u s small business participated in the pro gram and their expertise lends another dimension to our etforts marine has also initia ted a special assistance program which provides one-on-one counseling to the small business com munity this program is being facilitated through marine's six strategically located district loan cen ters counseling is provided by bank officers familiar with buffalo business and a pool of non-bank finan cial and technical experts who have volunteered to join in marine's plan to stimulate small business growth in western new york in announcing the small business initiatives earlier in the year charles m mitschow regional presi dent noted marine is not alone in its concern for economic development in western new york not do we profess to have the , perfect solution l to con tinued devitalization in the area we are confident however that our focus on small business develop in.-in is motor vehicles will begin accept ing applications for v f volunteer firemen plates through the special registration section in albany plate series vf-1 though vf-9999 have been assigned for passen ger vehicles and 1-vf 9999-v'f have been assign ed to commercial vehicles the applicant must com plete a form that is available at any one the the three county auto bureaus and forward it along with a letter from the applicant's fire chief attesting to their volunteer status to the special registrater section in albany mrs starosciak's three auto bureau's will be issuing plates 10000 and above for passenger vehicles and plates 10000 vf and above for commer cial plates sometime late in may it's encouraging that the state legislature has agreed to recognize the volunteer fire service as a very care cost control act would render medi care solvent between 1985 and 2005 as a result of system wide cost savings and and will give the program a new surplus of 29 billion by 2005 for the same period munication's chairman for the council of senior citizen clubs of buffalo and erie county inc announces that a ten-year struggle for consumer protection for people arranging funerals ended in a victory last month when the federal trade commission ruled on funeral industry practices passed both houses of congress without a legis lative veto the long overdue and badly needed funeral rule will give bereaved families the right to choose only those goods and services they want and can afford by requiring funeral direc tors to provide itemized price lists and to give price information on the phone when requested the ftc rule will also clamp down on deceptive and misleading sales prac tices prevalent in the industry funeral direc tors will be required to disclose thai embalming is not ordinarily required by law that a casket is not required for cremation and that sealed caskets will not preserve the body indefinitely ftc enforcement of the rule is expected to begin by the end of this year new
