community relations re cruitment but the outstanding mrs johnson was not too busy with her career to plan and manage one of the loveliest homes in the hamlin park section of buffalo which is noted for its lovely well structured homes a part of the happy family of horace and mamie johnson are three of buffalo's lovelist young women mrs june stand ford a graduate of vir ginia union university miss security company in at lanta - in a conversation with the beautiful talented pat it was difficult to deter mine which of her features was most attractive her voice and diction which is smooth and soothing while it commands atten tion is clipped and distinc tive without being affect ed or sharp or pat's physical features which are so lovely they speak of the gentility from whence she comes but as important pat exudes intelligence she has let it be known utmt misa intends j to perfect herself in her profession to the greatest extent possible her capabilities were discovered by a professor at b u s c dr james seward who encouraged her to do news casts and commercials in his evaluation of her he advised that she was ready for an audition tape a step so important in the media field miss johnson did an internship with channel 2-wgrz television then went to wufo radio before she started her present employment in march 1982 with wblk radio and even pat's show biz talent can be traced back to her mother mamie and grandmother mrs emily beale both of whom have rich singing voices and who at one time were a part of a trio which sang religious mu sic mrs beale also was a member of the sharon singers whose program was heard on wben for approximately a year mrs mamie johnson also sang with the five notes and a melody a group which was jokingly referred to as the forerun ners of the temptations pat expressed her great pleasure in performing a job well done stating she finds excitement in creat ing something — in scanning the events of the day ferreting out and condensing the news into the time span that she is allowed to convey the important events of the patricia johnson lincoln choirs to perform lenten season concerts the seven last words of christ a lenten cantata by theodore dv bois will be sung by the combined choirs of lincoln memorial united metho dist church pilgrim - st luke church of christ and the royal serenaders male chorus the group will perform for two concerts one concert will be held on friday april 13 at the lincoln memorial united methodist church at 7:30 p.m and the other on sun april 15 at the lafayette presbyterian church at 5 p.m the choirs will be directed by mrs lauretta m anderson with albert jarrett and chris snyder serving as organist and pianist respectively soloists include joyce pettis soprano nancy strohmier soprano james robinson tenor john crossman tenor and roy a mathis bass the public is invited the admission is free business week luncheon planned lota phi lambda soror ity beta phi chapter is sponsoring its annual busi ness week luncheon on sat april 14 at 1 p.m the theme for this year's event is women facing challenges in a new decade the luncheon will be held at salvatore's italian gar dens 6461 transit rd in depew the guest speaker will be ms janie sykes-ken nedy she is a journalist actress entrepreneur a • creative writer mother and wife ms sykes-kennedy holds a bachelor of arts degree in accounting and economics from howard university in washington d c and a master of science degree from co lumbia university and the graduate school of journ alism in new york city currently she heads her own firm sykes-ken nedy associates she works under contract with corporations and organiza tions as a consultant journalist marketing ex pert and public relations person among her clients are shenley affiliated brands corp for which she is writer and editor of an annual book excel which highlights excell ence in black organiza tions and black achievers the booker t washington foundation a leading research and development institution with programs throughout america afri ca and the caribbean the 1982 world's fair in knoxville term for " which she wrote perform ed and produced the major african-american night performance that included alex haley ' jayne kennedy and other celebrities she has received nu merous achievement awards most recently the ceba award for achievement in writing tuesday may ist mrs collins has spent her entire life in buffalo her elementary and high school education were obtained in the buffalo public school system she has a bachelor's degree in vocational technical edu cation a masters degree in allied health educa tion and is completing a doctorate in education administration at the uni versity of buffalo while employed with the buffalo board of education as a school nurse teacher and practi cal nurse instructor she became acquainted and involved with the educa tional system in buffalo mrs collins organized and implemented the first weekend health services clinic for students in the community she has also been instrumental in the development of school health programs health services training programs for high school students mental health technician programs health centers and senior citizen centers mrs collins is the wife of clyde a collins the mother of laura a school teacher and clyde a pre-k student 1 who attend public school no 54 early childhood center where his mother is a member of the p.t.a rev h v reid enslin elected to bgh bd rev herbert v reid pastor of the gethsemane baptist church and donald w enslin director of special services at national fuel gas have been elected to the buffalo general hos pital board of trustees rev reid and mr enslin were appointed at the board's annual meeting held march
