the council of churches below is the citation submitted to the council to show the church's appreciation for their can didate lauretta d anderson began her commitment to lincoln memorial united methodist church march 1 1929 when she was brought to buffalo as a child by her aunt and uncle rev and the late mrs william h homer lauretta sang in the junior choir and partici pated in sunday school programs and plays she was always friendly cheerful and outgoing the late mrs emmalyn homer a former concert singer choir director and dramatic actress taught her niece lauretta how to sing and to direct the choir as a teenager lauretta was the leading soprano in a cantata written produced and directed by mrs homer she sang on many programs in the communi ty and won the city-wide vocal contest for public high school students in 1936 lauretta is the grand daughter of the late rev charles tindley song writer and founder of the tindley temple in phila delphia one of his well known compositions is when the storms of life are raging stand by my me he lived from 1856 to 1933 lauretta's devotion to christian teaching led her to serve as a sunday school teacher and pianist as an adult she sang in the senior choir and when rev and the ate mrs homer transferred to a church in pittsburgh in 1965 lauretta took on directing the senior choir and continues in that role today mrs anderson plays many roles she pitches right in with enthusiasm in preparing for many church events she provides music for every occasion often singing a solo when the choir is unable to participate she also serves at church secretary in emer gencies she is a member of the administrative board and shares her vast church knowledge and experience with younger members she resides with her jevoted husband fred ' we are grateful to lauretta for her full life of service and grateful to the lord for blessing her so abundantly with the true spirit of christ ian love and ministry in our midst and now the chairper son of the board of trustees and minister and all the members of lincoln memorial united methodist church are proud to present this dedicated servant of the church and the communi ty as our 1984 selection mini-concert given by rev henry reed and the reed singers the theme of the retreat was the total christian woman the selected components of the total christian woman were the educational economi cal social political and spiritual aspects of her life the keynote speaker for the friday night session was the dynamic mrs mary crosby chappelle she opened the retreat by giving an overview of the objectives of the retreat as well as a brief definition facility in elmira n v economic mrs marvel ross james market ana lyst at american standard heat transfer division political judge barbara sims city court judge spiritual mrs anne perm an evangelist mis sionary and member of the following the retreat was a fashion show given by mrs judy roberson car mack featuring styles from new york city held for james madison white sunday mar 4 from 2 to 3:30 p.m at the thomas t edwards fu neral home 995 genesee st the rev charles jennings officiated mr white was born august 15 1907 in lima ohio to the late daniel ! and helen white he was i one of eleven children he attended lima public schools in 1924 at the age of 17 years he journeyed to cleveland ohio where he met and married dorothy may games on oct 10 1926 by the late elder david rochester of the church of god and saints of christ from this union six children were bom he was a loyal and active member of the church of god and saints of christ for 25 years he arrived in buffalo in 1947 where he continued his occupation as a metallurgist until illness disabled him in 1964 his last 20 years were filled . with severe illness which he handled with courage and humor he was an inspiration to ail who knew and loved him his survivors are two daughters naomi hasan of cleveland ohio and magdalene wooten of buffalo two sons joshua scruggs warrior high school and attended selma university in 1939 he came to buffalo to drive his brother who was ill home to alabama upon arriving he found his brother recuperating very well and decided to remain in buffalo he found employment at the chevrolet motor and axel plant on river road he then served four years in the united states army after his honorable dis charge from the army mr parks attended the american radio and tv institution from which he graduated after a stint of taxi driving mr parks studied data procession applied for and accepted a job with cornell labora tories he retired from cornell laboratories as a computer technician mr parks joined st philip's episcopal church where he has served on the vestry and as warden he was senior warden when father f don taylor became rector of the parish he is presently a member of the finance committee james parks became a member of the grand united order if odd fellows and served as the most noble grand for more than 12 years over lodge no 11360 - pride of the knight after joining the council he was elected to the position of worshipful master a posi tion he still holds james parks dr e.w.d isaac founder's day set
