celebrations & award presentations slated local serviceman fatally wounded victim of stray bullet cornelius lamar coca delaney 20 was the ictim of a stray bullet saturday jan 7th about 1:30 a.m he died tuesday jan kith 1984 about 12 noon the unfortunate event is reported to have taken place at the delicatessen located at 529 e ferry st when a group of 9 young men approached the store and wanted some items two of them knocked on the door and saw the proprietor approaching with a shot gun the group immediately began to run except cornelius the proprietor opened fire and the bullet struck the victim in the head he was rushed to deaconess hospital and later was transferred to the erie county medical center where he died tuesday jan 10th at 12 noon the wake will be held friday jan 13th at ceme tery cornelius is survived by his parents mr and mrs john delaney six brothers and three sisters he was a graduate of our lady of lourdes catholic school and bennett high school he was a pvt young monday jan 9th rev henry hall was the guest of his son dr samuel austin in brooklyn new york rev austin gave a birthday party for rev hall who was 91 years of age he remarked this young preacher is just like my own blood son he treats me so kind in fact his whole family does my daughter his wife opens their home to me just like my blood children do dr austin loves me because he lost his own be served something for the ' entire family to enjoy has been programmed the winner's circle dr alene barnes-harden dr merit barnes-har den is an autnor a professor a wife and a petite attractive bundle of brillance born to mr and mrs carl and mary barnes ii buffalo this young supei woman is the eldest of five children in order to provide the best education for alene that they could afford mr and mrs barnes felt that removing her from the public schools and sending . her to a catholic school would help to develop their child's obvious intel lectual potential . vft'rif actynnt^i 4 private - catholic girls high school where she enrolled in a general college admissions gram my high school days were the most trying years of my life i promised myself that i would never go any place where there ■were any more catholics sh aid 1 experienced so much racism at the school that it was a traumatic experi ence for mc explained dr barnes-harden i was frequently sub jected to racial slurs and was constantly harrassed by one of the nuns who referred to black ameri cans as spooks i had never heard thai term used in that sense before and for me a teenager i was definitely shocked my cousin and i and two other black girls were the first blacks in the school by the time i was a junior i was ready to rebel and i did as brilliant as she was dr barnes-harden decid ed that she would do no school work and would pass only one course the teacher insisted that she stand in a corner because she had done no home work and when she refused demanded that alene the only black girl in there get out the class to further punish her the nun read her report cant but x»i tnfe otner gins in the class but nothing could permanently frus trate the academic achievement of the young scholar she said i passed my courses none theless because there were regents exams given and the teachers had to give us the grade we earned dr barnes-harden said she has never returned to that school since her graduation she also attended can isius college where her experience with racism was similar to those at the high school the then miss barnes left can isius and entered s.u.n.y at buffalo she earned her b.a in black studies and her masters and doctorate degrees in cross cultural mass communications her greatest present ambition is to teach at s.u.n.y./b in the com munications department dr barnes-harden now teaches pan african studies in the black studies department of kent state university in ohio sometimes it's hard for the students to realize that 1 didn't have it made and that life wasn't com pletely easy for me dr alene barnes-harden robinson succumbs funeral services for theodore a robinson were held dec 29th 1983 at 1 p.m at agape ame church he was born in cleve land ohio on july 3 1914 and was the son of the late dock and esther robin son he was educated in the public schools of cleveland prior to coming to buffalo in 1930 he was a former mem ber of st francis de sales church mr robinson married the former kathrine mit cherson he was the father of alberta theo dore jr gayla terrence michael and the late eric his employment includ ed the new york central railroad co general mo tores corp and the city of buffalo he was also the proprietor of the ted robinson's real estate agency mr robinson retired from the city of buffalo in 1979 as a real estate specialist in the dept of community development he played a major role in the community devel opment program for buf falo including the apprais al and acquisition of properties in the elm-oak st renewal program mr robinson was an ambassador of good will ' he conveyed love and good will where ever he went he was ever so willing and able to lend a helping hand to those in need he was an humanitari an his personal
