_•* 20.000 to the fillmore ieroy area residents inc under the program the agencies are to provide comprehensive informa tion and guidance to individuals and families — renters home owners and potential home buyers associated with residential properties under hud programs a hud spokes man said the program is aimed at helping reduce rental delinquencies and mortgage defaults hooks to lead between the ages of 18 and 24 who have the poorest voter participation rate in the country joe madison national director for the naacp's voter education program will coordinate the march ohio became the four teenth state in the u s last month to adopt a law which allows high school administrators to register voters the naacp is working to have this kind of bill passed in every state so that mora 18-vaar olds can register and vote the association signed up 850,000 voters last year and spent a half million dollars in recent months to step up voter registration across the country williamsons to force third class american blacks are now called upon to help slaughter defense less south american wo men and children and poverty stricken african sisters and brothers make no mistake about it campaign of county executive edward j rutkowski on june 29th at the little harlem hotel a crowd of about 300 elected officials civic leaders concerned citizens and other supporters were on hand to show their appreciation for the outstanding job which ed rutkowski has done during his current term as erie county executive at the event the incumbent county executive pledged to continue his past record of achievement in the area of equal employment opportunity affirmative action heating and home weatheriza tion assistance and adequate health care for the unemployed and the less fortunate rev h v reid pulls for rutkowski rev herbert v reid right pastor of gethsemane baptist church announ ced today that he is endorsing edward j rutkowski for re-election as erie county executive rev reid said that his decision was based on a careful review of ed rutkowski's record for the past four years he said that ed rutkowski took action to assist inner-city residents in fighting high heating bills by making home weatherization materials avail able and by maintaining steady pressure on state government to provide additional funding to erie county for the heat energy assistance program he opposed the devastating price hikes which gas electric and telephone companies have sought at the expense of low and fixed income taxpayers he improved the quality of health care for inner-city residents through the erie county medical center as well as the neighborhood health clinics under ed rutkowski minority utilization in 1982 increased from 8 to a record 11 amounting to 1.5 million dollars worth of construction work he increased minority employment in erie county from 10 to 14 erie community college city campus is a testimony of his commitment to the minority community to provide quality education to inner city residents offering nursing computer science and technical courses in keeping his pledge to increase the number of minorities working at all levels of county government he recently named james covial as director of the detention division in the department of youth services and juanita mcl ford as first deputy social services commissioner among others stated rev reid recognizing the important role of citizen participation in the effective operation of government he has appointed blacks hispanics and many other minorities to such boards as the minority business enterprise utilization advisory board equal employment opportunity advisory board and erie community college board of trustees rev reid continued mr rutkowski is a life member of the naacp honorary chairman of the united negro college fund and has been a proponent of civil rights after reviewing his record com mitment and his accountability rev reid said he deserves to be
