dedication services were held with the artist william cooper others on hand for the program were county legislator barry robinson dr monroe fordham seated from left sharon holly doris watts north group made trip to protest energy costs delegation traveled to d c called for roll back the nypirg citizens alliance rev ken sher man president traveled to washington d c early this week to protest high gas bills mrs mamie garrett the criterion representa tive made the may 3rd trip to the nation's capitol to lobby for the roll back of natural gas prices congressman henry nowak d-33d attended the meeting which was quite a success sponsored by the alliance on 400 leroy aye the group thanks the national fuel gas for donating 500.00 towards the trip while in ' washington the alliance enjoyed a sight-seeing tour includ ing the white house and arlington cemetery congressman nowak issued a statement of thanks to the group as follows thank you for coming today to communicate the strong concern of western new lurks about the soaring natural gas prices we experienced last win ter thank you also for the hard work you have done in collecting these 173.000 plus signatures document ing that concern i hope this broad ex pression of concern will help accelerate congres sional debate on this issue i hope it also helps accel erate achievement of a comprehensive solution as you know i have joined more than 100 colleagues in the house in cosponsoring h.r 2154 i believe that bill is an excellent vehicle for achieving the comprehen sive result we are all seeking we do not want a decontrol job training partnership committee held 1st meeting governor mario cuomo fri . april 22nd convened the first meeting of the new job training partnership committee which is in charge with designing job training and employment programs to replace the ceta pro gram the new job training partnership pro gram will heavily empha size private sector involve ment in job creation and training the meeting was held in the 44th floor hearing room of two world trade center new york city in addressing the 46 member committee the governor outlined the three major aims of the committee 1 to assure that the state's resources are used to create job opportunities or those who need them most those who have suddenly been left jobless after years of gainful employment due to shifts in the structure of our economy those who work n unstable marginal jobs and therefore do not earn enough to support their amilies and young people who have left school without acquiring the skills they need to get a job 2 to develop programs aimed at preparing work ers to meet the needs of new york's changing economy and thus create a strong foundation for eco nomic growth and 3 to insure that the greatest possible percen tage of the funds available are distributed directly to those in need and are not tunneled off for excessive administrative or bureau cratic expenses one of the earliest specific recommendations the committee must make is designation of the local service delivery areas through which job training and placement programs will be administered the committee received and reviewed a staff proposal for the creation of thirty such areas throughout the state the city of new york four upstate cities and large counties would each comprise a single service delivery area elsewhere groups of contiguous counties would be designated these thirty areas would 3 promoted at big e empire of america fsa has elected joanne e carroll to personnel office james m harris to banking officer and charles c parker to assistant auditor an nouncement of the promo tions was by paul a willax president and chief executive office at empire of america mrs carroll joined em pire of america in 1982 as a compensation analyst a native of bath n v mrs carroll earned a b.s degree in consumer eco nomics and public policy from cornell university she is a member of new york employee benefits conference and the amer ican institute of banking mrs carroll and her family reside in snyder mr harris earned a ma degree in criminal justice from the stale university of new york at albany he joined empire of america in 1979 as a management trainee in his new position mr harris will be responsible for telemarketing and the big e telephone center he is presently enrolled in the m.b.a program at canisius college mr harris and his family live in buffalo mr parker a native of buffalo earned a b s degree in accounting from charles parker the federal budget — an assault on the poor national urban league's president john e jacob friday called the 1984 federal budget obscene calling in stead for creation of a universal employment system from the sutler's golden ballroom at the 56th annual meeting of the buffalo urban league he called on blacks to solve some of their own social problems he noted that black ameri cans are one tenth of the nation's population but that they comprise one fourth of the unemployed and one third of the poor and for each dollar earned by a typical white family a black family earns 56 cents according to the state of black by june carter america's 1983 report comparing the 1984 federal budget with that of the urban league mr jacob said that mr reagan's budget should be a blueprint for ameri ca's recovery instead it is an assault on the very poor of this nation '' and were it 21 — a memorial service was held thurs apr 21 at the morehouse college campus in atlanta ga for t m alexander jr first vice president and public finance national accounts of e f hutton & co mr alexander who was 50 was presum ed drowned in a boating mishap off the coast of honduras on sat apr 16th mr alexander had been on a deep-sea fishing trip with his wife janis and friends and was
