11 wednesday march 9-15 1983 governor continues minority appts callender nominated for nys office of the aging post gov mario m cuomo has announced the nomi nation of eugene s callender of new york city a presbyterian min ister a lawyer and long time community leader as director of the new york state office of the aging in announcing the nomi nation gov cuomo said mr calender's vast experience in such diverse areas as housing educa tion employment oppor tunities the ministry the law and community activi ties and his administrative abilities make him em inently qualified to serve as director of the office of housing education and employment beginning in 1967 call ender was executive di rector of the new york urban league during this time he initiated street academies a concept which gained na tional attention the aging .... mr callender who is black is 57 years old he currently is senior minis ter and chief executive officer of the church of the master where he has served since september 19 i rand previously from 1959tp19p6 he received his j.d degree from the new york law school last year from 1980-1982 he was city director of new york cities in schools a federally-funded experi mental jti-ofe-nrr jn j|t ruptive and emotional disturbed students previously he was pres ident and chief executive officer of the new york urban coalition a post he held from 1969 to 1975 at that time callender re structured the coalition to innovative programs in he was founder and pastor of the mid-harlem community parish from 1955 to 1959 his professional associ ations include president of the syda foundation consultant to the ford foundation member of the president's task force on manpower and urban unemployment under president johnson and consultant to the 1.8.m corporation and motorola corp mr callender has lec tured at columbia gradu ate school for business york college and new york university for six years from 1970 to 1976 callender hosted the nbc program positively black a program which is now in its 12th year he is a 1947 graduate of boston university in ioat fit ctouenuer was the first black graduate of westminister theological semianry for the next two years he studied at union theological semin ary in new york city the nomination requires confirmation by the state senate the position pays 59,800 a year testimonial dinner honored oldest choir member lincoln memorial united methodist church masten and northland avenues recently honored its oldest choir member with a testimonial dinner george perkins fondly known as uncle perk joined the photo robinson requests heap benefits for section 8 housing recipients i erie county legislator i barry l robinson has | made a formal request to the n y s division of budget urging them to approve a proposed amendment to the 1982-83 state heap plan which would allow persons re i ceiving section 8 housing assistance to qualify for yieap benefits citing the overwhelm citing the overwhelm jvtng need for the revisions mr robinson pointed out that there are over 3,000 section 8 receipients in erie county and nearly 90 of these people must pay their own heat and electric bills it is clearly unfair to fox j deprive some of the most needy and vulnerable households in the commu nity of the help they need to pay skyrocketing fuel bills legislator robin son said the state he con tinued allowed section 8 housing recipients to re ceive heap benefits last year during the 1981-82 heap program all i'm asking is that they give these people the same help this year mr robinson made his formal request through a resolution which was ap proved by the full legisla ture at its march 3rd meeting elizabeth e price supervisory personnel relations assistant at the westinghouse facility in cheektowaga receives westinghouse community ser vice award from james m warren vice president and general manager of the motor divisions westinghouse cites local employee for community service efforts westinghouse electric corp has bestowed a community service award upon a local human resources staff member for her consistently out standing service to the community through expenditure of personal time and means elizabeth e price supervisory personnel relations assistant at the westinghouse facility in cheektowaga was presented the award by motor divisions vice president and general manager james m warren in a surprise ceremony at the plant the award plaque included the engraved signature of the corporation's chairman of the board robert e kirby along with other corporate and local officials including mr warren nolan to address daemen college forum dr robert s marshall president of daemen col lege announced that dr donald j nolan deputy commissioner for higher and professional
