wednesday february 23 mar 1 1983 wny peace rally planned for may to focus on world peace end to arms race it is anticipated that thousands of people will participate in the may 28th western new york peace rally according to the rev dr ralph w loew convenor of the communi ty group that has accepted responsibility to plan for this event the may 28th peace rally will include a large assembly where invited speakers are expected to focus public attention on the need for world peace and the ending of the arms race and also a march along a soon to be designated route will occur the details of the event are being closely coordinated with appro priate officials in buffalo the peace rally is one of the major events plan ned for western new york peace week may 22-28 th the publicity and coordination of public events for peace week is the responsibility of the interfaith peace coalition of the buffalo area metro jaaamm ■• n_t.-in v bamm organizations and groups in western new york who tern new yorkers to share in common goals of peace and justice for all events already schedul ed for western new york peace week include a peace jubilee at the downtown campus of erie community college in buffalo on sunday may 22 from 3to 8 p.m this arts-picnic-festival will feature drama liturgical dance music banners sculpture poetry - each depicting shalom - our community unity in peace the peace jubilee is sponsored by the joint christian education com mittee of the american baptist churches of the niagara frontier the united church of christ and the christian church disciples of christ in the western new york area and the presbytery of western new york of the united presbyterian church in the usa students in public pri vate and parochial schools are invited to participate in the young people's peace project the art that is submitted through their schools will be on public display at the peace jubilee at the erie com munity college city cam pus art will also be selected for publication in a booke dedicated to peace information about the young people's peace project has been sent to all schools in the area sr pauline petruzella is the chairwoman of this event ~ a world peace celebra tion will be held at st paul's cathedral on thurs may 26th at 8 p.nr i"he gala intertaith event will involve partici pation of religious leaders in the western new york area including bishop edward d head of the roman catholic diocese of buffalo bishop harold b robinson of the episcopal diocese of western new york area denominational executives of protestant churches black church leaders rabbis and imams parishes and congrega tions are urged to prepare themselves through edu cation and prayer and to be present at this event detailed information will soon be sent to this address mr bieber will hold an 11:30 a.m press confer ence in the president's office of daemen college in room 107 of the dun scotus bldg at 3380 main st in amherst mr bieber will than address the daemen forum at 12 km in the executive dining room on the 2nd floor of the charles j wick campus center at daemen he is being brought to western new york by his fellow associate and area host governor winter use the power of his office to grant bail immediately to mayor carthan and exonerate carthan fully by issuing a pardon of innocence angela davis co-chair man of the n.a.a.r.p.r stated mississippi has unjustly jailed mayor car than for upholding the law carthan's attorneys have established that he was duty bound by missi ssippi law to disarm and discharge jim andrews a white impostor who de dared himself chief of police and attempted to usurp by force the powers of the mayor eddie carthan was the first black mayor of arthur to make run for council presidency following is a statement from councilman-at-large geome k arthur at a press conference held tuesday feb 16th first let me say thanks to each of you for taking time away from your busy schedule to attend this press confer ence one of the most important conference's that i have held in my political career since it became known that this is delmar's last year as council president i have received many calls visits
