of commitment ca pability compassion anal conciliation and predict ed victory in next septem ber's democratic primary hoyl was a teacher of american and european history and a democratic party activist before being elected delaware district councilman in i!h>9 he was the first democrat ever to be elected to that position in 1972 hi was a mcgovern delegate to the democratic national con vention in 1974 he defeated a 19-year assem bly incumbent and he has been re-elected to that office seven times he currently chairs the assa-mbly standing com mittee on energy and the assembly subcommittee on child abuse he is a member of the children and families committee the committee on corpor the rev herbert v re-id pastor of gethse mane baptist church located at 55 grape st and one of the city's leading social activists says he is considering a race for mayor re*v ke-ili a registered democrat is considered me of the black commu nity's most influential and politically independent has new pastor bethel a me church 1525 michigan aye re cently received a new pastor at the first episco pal district convocation held november 15-18 1988 the convocation was hosted by bethel a.m.e church in phila delphia the mother church tin rev harry white jr has been named pastor and will succeed the rev eugene e mcashan rev white is the son of dr harry j white sr and virginia j white he was born in an a m.e parsonage knoxville term his early education was in public schools of ten nessee alabama utah arizona california and buffalo n y he received his b.s in education from wilberforce university and later his master of divinity and doctor of divinity from payne theo logical seminary wilber force rev white has taught in the areas of elementary education special educa tion and junior and senior high school studies in buffalo rochester pas saic n.j norwalk conn his ministry has included ohio new york new jersey connecticut ber muda and pennsylvania the rev white has received many awards and citations from various or ganizations in the church and community he is a member of the alpha phi alpha fraternity rev harry white sr pastured bethel-buffalo in the fifties and now some front buffalo green peace and the new alliance party sister ayanna brown and numerous passer-bys held a march and rally in response to the rampant and deliberate police attacks in the african-american community two unarmed youths were shot in the back for allegedly stealing a car two young students were stopped beaten in broad daylight by two police officers for allegedly robbing a jewelry store further beaten after being identified by the store owner as not being the suspects and charged with the old disorderly conduct and obstruction of justice garbage to cover up the police crimes just a few months later on november 15th a 17-year-old youth by the name of paul dixon was dragged from a restaurant and beaten for allegedly robbing a white man moments earlier although paul dixon as witnesses staled was not the suspect he was further abused kicked in the groin and locked up to cover police crimes again commissioner ralph degenhart was asked to appear before a public meeting in the council chambers on december 9th by councilman james pitts but sent a letter instead degenhart and his boys know that the same racist corrupt system they freely operate within also is the same system our - elected officials are chained and bonded to which renders them powerless to actively and effectively combat police brutality as sister ayanna brown stated during the rally we need a
