policy philip ruinore presi dent of the 3500-nu-niu-r buffalo teachers federa tion released a survey which indicates that buf falo teachers may lit the only teachers in new york stale bound by a residency policy for continued em ployment ruinore stated it would appear that based on our conversation with the new york stale educa lion department a survey of all the big 5 city school districts and a sample of local and other school districts buffalo teachers are the only teachers bound by a residency i quit tin rt why buffalo teachers who have worked so bard to malt out schools the best m tin slate have this dubious honor is an interesting question ru inore further slated residency policies are like building walls around your community if amherst and williamsville decided lo impose a residency policy some of my friends who live in buffalo would either have to move or resign from their school what does that benefit there might have been a time when urge til and pressing de mands newburg white plains and mt vernon th btf could find no new york state school districts with residency rules ii there is a school district in new york state with a residency require ments tor teachers academic convocation opening the 1988-89 year at buffalo slate college the address by dr fleming is scheduled for 12:30 in rockwell hall auditorium she will speak on fostering di versity in a university en vironment her appear ance is being funded by the paul g bulger lec lurship established in honor of the former bsc president dr fleming is consid ered a pioneer in the study of black intellectual de velopment in higher edu cation in addition to teaching barnard college undergrade courses on the psychology of racism and human motivation she is a consulting psychologist in new york 700,000 grant from the carnegie foundation while she served as a fellow of the radcliffe in stitute dr fleming received i bachelor's degree in psy chology at barnard col lege in 1969 and a doctorate church of god in christ a predominantly black pentecostal denomi nation villi an internation al membership of some three and one half million members announce tin celebration of the birthday of the founding father of the church the late bishop charles harrison mason on sept btk and 9lh september bth marks the one-hundred and twenty-five anniversary of bishop mason's birth and the two-day celebra tion will culminate with a mass rally in the civic center auditorium in jackson mississippi on friday sept 9th at 7 p.m bishop mason * as bom in 1863 in bartlett ten nessee a slave in bishop mason's own words he was heard to say that he was two years old wh»-n abraham lincoln freed the slaves at age 32 he organized the first congre gation within our denom ination in 1895 in lexing ton mississippi because his message and preaching was bible holiness he allied him self with other young men who believed as he behov ed and they called their congregations the church of god during that time th wesley an holiness re vivals were sweeping the world and many preachers from the methodist com munions and the baptist organizations were or ganizing churches and calling them the church of god bishop mason while in little rock arkansas in 1896 received the revelation of a name for the church which would not depart from the scriptures the new name became the church of god in christ eleven years passed and bishop mason heard of the great los angeles revival on azusa st and journey ed there he received the baptism in the holy ghost speaking with other tongues as the spirit gave utterance when bishop mason and the other brothers returned to the south with this new found experience the brothers that did not go to california did not sub scribe and withdrew fel lowship from him in that same year 1907 bishop mason sent out a call to those churches and pastors who believed in the pentecostal experience as recorded in acts 2:4 to meet him in memphis term to form the first pentecostal general as sembly to the church of god in christ ten congregations were repre sented in that meeting in november and hop mason served as senior bishop and president of the denomination until his death in 1961 from the time of the beginning in 1895 at lexington to the giving of the name in 1896 in little rock unto the gathering of those of like pentecostal faith in 1907 in mem phis the church has
