another student in the suny-buffalo program kimberly emerson also a 1988 graduate of city honors high school won 500 and a bronze medal for her third-place finish in the chemistry division ms emerson also won a 1,000 award from step for outstanding work in chemistry during the aca demic year along with 24 other minority and disadvan taged high school stu dents they participated in research courses and counseling at the suny buffalo school of medicine and biomedical sciences on saturdays during the 1987-88 school year the program is funded by the new york state education department nurses endorse eve the membership of nurses united communi cation workers of america local 1168 voted unani mously to support arthur o eve deputy speaker of the new york state as sembly in his bid for re election nurses united praised eve on his record supporting organized la bor during his 21 years in the legislature nurses united made headlines during the past year as a result of their strike againl degraff me morial hospital the rev jessie l jackson presi dent of the nation rain bow coalition was called in to mediate stall negotia tions between the union and hospital management jackson's mediation was effective and the strike was settled nurses united's mem bership worked on the jackson presidential cam paign which eve was the upstate coordinator as a result of their involvement with the jackson cam paign the union's en dorsement has special significance eve is seeking his 12th term as assemblyman in the 141 st district he is the endorsed candidate of the democratic party for in the blue room of the white house the president spoke to emil of the need for young people to become involv ed in politics and be elected to public office emil's trip to washington also included meeting with vice president george bush various members of the house of representatives and the staff of the national republican congression al committee emil is challenging for the house seat in the 32nd congressional district the district ranges from north buffalo to downtown rochester via erie niagara orleans and monroe counties the united state of new york racial harmony sought hotline available governor mario m cuomo in a press conference last thursday in manhattan outlined a set of initiatives to increase racial harmony among new yorkers the program includes a toll-free hotline encouraging citizens to report racial incidents tboo-no2-bias a crisis prevention unit and public service announcements for radio and television annual people's forum planned for aug 13th candidates for elected offices to face-off the buffalo criterion press club will sponsor its annual peoples forum 88 at the promiseland baptist church mulberry and high streets sat aug 13th from 4 to 7 p.m the following offices will be represented the 141 st assembly uibincl assemblyman arthur o eve and dorsey glover district attorney kevin dillon and william sketney judicial candi dates judge barbara sims atty william ham ilton judge mike pietrus zka and atty larry cataldi honored educator and columnist eva m doyle will moderate judge william sims will moder ate the judicial panelists representatives from the buffalo criterion the challenger fine print and wufo will participate arthur o eve dorsey 11 clover blue cross blue shield agree to separate charles e rath presi dent of blue cross of western new york inc has released a memoran dum to the blue cross board of directors in forming them of a court order signed july 21st 1988 by state supreme court justice leo j fallon which will result in the termination of the legal relationship between the two corporations by the end of six months marketing services presently provided by blue cross for blue shield will be terminated at the close of business on sept 9th 1988 other services will ist phased out over a period ending january 15 1989 under the procedure set forth by justice fallon in his order group opposes police precinct reorganization according to a spokes man from the minority coalition inc the final report on the police re organization has been completed and is about to police precincts rev william v callahan to speak mt olive baptist church 629 east delavan avenue will sponsor a youth and young adult revival monday aug 15th thru aug 19th services will begin nightly at 7 p.m the guest speaker will be
