was born in atlanta ga where she received her high school education she received a master's in education from webster college st louis missouri and her master's in administration and reading from the college of st thomas in st paul minnesota her first assignment after entering the oblate community was at st paul and augustine school in washington d c where she taught second grade she also attended st louis university's school of social work sister xavier served as principal of st peter claver elementary school in st paul for four years and at st benedict the moor school in washing ton she moved to buffalo in 1973 and for the past 15 years has served as principal of the diocesan educational campus which has educated over 900 children in grades k-8 ninety-eight percent of the students are black and ninety-five percent of the school is non-catholic under sister xavier's leadership the school has distinguished itself for its programs which have encouraged spiritual physi cal social and intellectual growth in its students the pro ecclesia et pontifice award for the church and the pontiff instituted in 1888 to mark the golden priestly jubilee of leo xiii continues today to be awarded as a ign of the pope's recognition of outstanding ser vice to the church papacy it has been bestowed upon sister xavier in recognition of the fact that as a black religious serving in the diocese of buffalo she has distinguished herself as a dedicated religious and excellent educator a competent administrator and an active participant in the ministry of the diocese within the catholic central city at the conclusion of the academic year sister xavier w ill retire as principal of dec and return to assume duties of director of health services at the motherhouse of the sister of providence in baltimore maryland named executive v.p lan webber ph.d has been named executive vice president and mem ber t the board of directors for the hazard ous waste management corp located at 4454 genesee st in buffalo old westinghousc plant announced ronald m rao chairman of the board of hazardous waste management liardous waste man agement corp antici pates s_o million in annual sales and expects to grow from 65 current employees lo 250 next year the goal i the company is to become a full service hazardous waste manage ment corporation to treat or dispose of all forms of hazardous waste including asbestos pc b.s heavy metals and industrial waste working with manu facturing plants utilities and schools dr webber received his ph.d degree in analytical rtadiochemistry from car leton university in ottawa canada b s degree in chemistry and physics from the university of london england and a.r.c.a.t.s degree in chemistry and physics from the royal college of advanced techology in saltord england mr webber will be the liason for his company with area universities particularly with the suwab and hazardous waste center there he will supervise all research and development projects with the versity of new york at buffalo and the youth award cozette lyons dr evans and dr wright are one of buf falo's most respected and beloved husband-wife medical teams after a combined total of 81 years in the medical profession the couple have decided to retire they have done more than practice medi cine they have given time creativity and inspiration to the buffalo community dr evans is a graduate of the indiana university medical school and intern ed at new york's harlem hospital a diplomate of the american board of family practice he serves on the staff of millard fillmore hospital and is clinical assistant profes sor of medicine at the suny school of medicine in buffalo dr wright a meharry medical school graduate is an attendant in pedi atrics at buffalo children's hospital and a member of the american academy of pediatrics not only has dr wright distinguished herself as a physician but she served on the school board 1962-1967 she was particularly active in the specialized school concept that later was termed magnet school a member of st philips episcopal church and st philips altar guild dr wright has been singularly active in such activities as open housing planned parent hood and community self-help groups her biography appeared in the first edition of who's who of american wo men in 1980 mrs constance _ < i b eve founded and or ganized women for hu man rights and dignity inc whrdi and five years later in 1985 her energetic and inspirational activities and determina tion resulted in openirg the women's residential resources center 2528 main st wrrc is now considered a model facili ty thousands of women and their children have been helped by whrd and wrrc their efficient staff and volunteers mrs eve is the linchpin who transformed a concept into reality blessed with a charm ing magnetic highly per suasive personality mrs eve developed a coopera tive spirit with the park side community assn businesses unions foun daitons private citizens friends neighbors and everyone the beautifully renovated and furnished home opened as an alter native to incarceration for women of buffalo and erie county ' mrs eve in her own right has received almost as many honors as her famous assemblyman husband arthur the couple are proud of their five children arthur jr dr frank g.evans medgar evers civil rights award dr lydia t wright medgar evers civil rights
