congress has sent a clear message that government will not toler ate discrimination the override was a powerful blow to the administra tion's rigid anti-civil rights policies and because the lawmakers acted in an election year it suggests congress's respect lor the power of the black vote and the votes of white citizens who reject dis crimination in all of its forms passage of this act was long overdue the presi dent's veto was hostile t bvetfide is a positive reminder of the moral legitimacy ot civil rights aspirations and of govern ment's role in setting and enforcing non-discrimina tory resolu tion they co-sponsored in the erie county legisla ture that calls upon the special projects director for the department of senior services to attend the next scheduled meet ing of the lesiglature's social services committee and explain why the city of buffalo has only 5 scheduled mobile assis tance map programs for the remainder of 1988 out of 29 scheduled for all of erie county these maps for the elderly provide a variety of needed services in various neighborhoods throughout erie county all kinds of information is made avail able for consumer needs to veterans affairs to jobs for seniors to discount id cards good on public transportation and depart ment stores for discounts the maps are very valuable to our seniors in erie county but the person responsible for scheduling these pro grams seem to have forgotten about the resi dents of the city of buffalo especially those in the inner city and on the west side said black well the glaring ommission of scheduled sites in minority neighborhoods is insulting to our city's black and hispanic popu lations far too many blacks and hispanic senior citi zens are being left out of this valuable program offered by the county our resolution seeks some answers as to why of 29 sites picked for maps this year from march until year's end only five are in the city and only one in the inner city and none are on the city's west side something's wrong some where and our resolution wants some questions an swered robinson con tinued the person who sched ules this program will now have to explain to our social services committee the reasoning behind the schedule for 1988 and why so many minority commu nities have been left out of the maps we intend to make sure that the minority areas of our city get their fair share of this pro gram's benefits this year at we can assure you concluded blackwell jordan grove to give 2nd church banquet apr 9th the second annual church banquet will be held on sat april 9 at 7
