mickey gilley lola fa lana george benson and earl klugh jody watley the whispers anita ba ker and many others the high or low road to political campaigning one of the first decisions an individual has to make who is involved with planning strategies for a political campaign is whether to take the high or low road in essence this means deciding if the campaign will be issues oriented or one focused on muckraking mudslinging deceit and defamation of character many of us have witnessed the era of watergate dirty-tricks and recently the kind of scrutinizing the news media is reporting on what was once considered matters of personal privacy the speeches and qualifica tions of people seeking office are also ex amined very closely by the public in general especially that segment which is in opposition to them some of us may adhere to the old adage that in the heat of battle everything is fair and you must win at any cost i happen to subscribe to the trend of thought that it is not whether you win or lose but how you play the game i feel individuals who are involved in political campaigns should agree in principle to the rules for conducting a healthy spirited and com petitive campaign and they should pledge to abide by these rules probably by now the question has come to mind of why is anyone writing about how a political campaign is conducted and furthermore who cares my response to the first part of this question is that we need only to look at what is happening on a national level by william burroughs board of directors of jeff-way inc with the 1988 presidential campaign in order to understand the reality that planning and organizing started three or four years prior to the presidential election a similar trend exists on the state and local levels of government the primary election for next year's political offices is nine months away and the general eleciton is less than a year you do not have to be a political scientist to realize that there is not much time for a candidate to start preparing for an election i often hear the names of people mentioned who may be interested in seeking an elected office particularly of the 141 assembly district i am aware of the fact that an exploratory committee has been formed and is assessing the feasibility of a candidate running for this elected office the name of dorsey h glover regional director of the department of economic development has surfaced and has been mentioned by the exploratory committee as a prime contender to seek this office providing the committee's assessment proves favorable however mr glover has not made any official statement about his intentions other than that it is something the he will consider and make a decision at the appropriate time mr glover made a point of explaining to me that if he did decide to challenge the greetings surround yourself with those you love and s experience all of the l beauty of the season , a joyous holiday season to our staff
