thursday september 17-23 1987 established in 1925 vol 62 — no 38 the buffalo criterion niagara region wny's necessary minority newspaper — featuring paid legitimate circulation rochester case against courton dropped in ferry street cyclist death the case of joe louis courton was dismissed in city court upon a motion of his lawyer kelvin dillon by judge joseph broderick of ciiminal charges stemming from an allegation that courton's taxi was in an accident that resulted in the death of a bicyclist on east ferry street last month however if new evidence is presented to the district attorney or the prosecution feels that they have enough evidence to present it directly to a grand jury they can do so within six months most observers think that it is highly unlikely because the test performed by the buffalo police on courton's taxi didn't produce any evidence that it was involved in the death of the bicyclist on east ferry st because the taxi was returned to courton instead of being marked for evidence in any future trial a lawyer said that courton could be charged with leaving the scene of an accident because he has never denied that his taxi hit an empty bicycle lying in the street but so would most people who simply regard movable inanimate objects as road hazards said one of his well wishers by abdullah luqman ms mary frances courton of 304 watson st speaking for the courton family would like to thank the many ministers and friends who have stood by her brother during this family crisis joe had been changed in the death of a bicyclist as a hit and run driver he had been released without bail until september 15 1987 when a prelimin ary hearing was scheduled to be held to see if there was enough evidence to hold him for the grand jury after giving thanks to god she extends thanks to their many friends and supporters which include the bishops leroy anderson and charles h mccoy rev glenn harvey dußois rev arthur cunningham rev william and mother davis brother ted johnson and rev leon dupree mother ussury mrs barbara sims mrs ruth harris and mrs mamie smith other supporters are corinthian long romeo and eve doyle mark and lethia o'riley john lee chappell frank e merriweather jesse pompey bro smiley ted mitchell this reporter and many others kevin harrington to attend arthur morgan school kevin harrington son of dr shirley l harring ton of buffalo is leaving sept 18th to begin classes at the arthur morgan school a unique boarding school for grades 7-9 near burnsville north carolina the curriculum at ar thur morgan school com bines small academic classes with extensive electives outdoor experi ence work projects and community decision mak ing during the first week of school students will go on an overnight hike partici pate in various projects and help clean up the school in preparation for the beginning of classes kevin is returning for his second year at arthur morgan school a new van for good samaritan this photo shows some of the membership of the good samaritan church of god in christ 265 leroy aye elder glenwood young is the pastor they posed proudly in front of their new church van elder and sis young are doing a fine job in building the church and aiding in the community the good samaritan church family invites the communty to worship with them sunday morning at 12 -
