wedding anniversary mr and mrs romeo doyle recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary the doyle's are community activists and mrs doyle is a columnist for the buffalo criterion this photo recent issu ance of licensing guide lines from the state of new york department of health the buffalo birth center is looking forward to the establishment of the first free-standing birth center in western new york in the near future a non-profit corporation following procedures de veloped by a medical advisory committee the buffalo birth center will provide comprehensive maternity care in an out-of-hospital setting to families anticipating low risk normal births the center will be an ambulatory short stay facility offering pregnancy testing prenatal labor and delivery and post partum care health child birth and parenting educa tion and home health visiting presently exist in the united states with the first the maternity center association's childbear ing center having been founded in new york city in 1975 the final stage of planning for the buffalo birth center will get underway this fall with the review of its certificate of need application by the health systems agency of western new york many linkages have already been established with iocs hospitals and other mater nity care providers to raise additional funds for set up of the local center the buffalo birth center the shopping continue mrs eva m doyle would like to announce that the next shopping trip will be held on saturday july 11th at 4 p.m at bora sanaa located at 3072 bailey avenue near kensington aye bora sanaa is owned and operated by william y cooper bora sanaa features artwork picture framing and jewelry as well as a variety of cards and gifts for many occasions this is another in a series of shopping trips geared to show support for local black businesses mrs doyle would like to encourage everyone to come out and purchase merchandise from mr cooper shoppers are asked to spend at least 4.00 on these shopping there will be a special drawing held on this trip the first prize winner will receive a framed art print from mr cooper and the second place winner will receive a ten dollar gift certificate toward the pur chase of merchandise in bora sanaa the drawing will be held in the store at the time of the shopping visit shoppers are urged to come on time to get a chance to win one of these prizes mr cooper would like also to announce the start of a bora sanaa discount club each person will receive a card while shopping at bora sanaa the card will be punched and shoppers will receive a ten percent discount to ward the purchase of products in the store care park to transport area residents to bflo general the buffalo general hospital continues its on going effort to meet the increasing needs of the community with the intro duction of care park a new shuttle service that provides easy access to buffalo general hospital care park debuts july 1 to transport hospi tal patients and visitors from local parking areas to buffalo general free of charge buffalo residents can board one of two 18-person vans at the nfta transport station terminal at allen and main sts , and the city parking ramp at ellicott and goodrich sts similar service provid ed by niagara falls memorial medical center in niagara falls requires payment of a set fee according to the distance traveled care park is an expansion of the present system to include mem bers of the community who may find it difficult to come to buffalo general and visit family and friends because they aren't able to walk long distances or lack private transportation said wil liam v kinnard jr m.d bgh president and chief executive officer with access to the nearby nfta terminal and city parking ramp we can provide safe convenient and comfortable transpor ation to bgh in addition to the community service care park will continue the present service provided by blue bird bus and shuttle bgh staff to and from the hospital's over flow staff lot at a nearby church on michigan aye care park a joint venture of general health care management ser vices a subsidiary of the hospital's parent com pany general care corp and evans development co will operate weekdays from 6:30 a.m to 9 p.m and provide continuous round-trip service shuttle stops include buffalo general's tower building on high st st john baptist church on michigan aye nfta terminal at main and allen sts and the city ramp at ellicott and goodrich sts the service will later be expanded to include two lots on main st between high and goodrich sts which were recently ac quired by the joint ven ture all stops will be clearly marked with a blue and white care park shuttle sign so remember — it's free safe convenient and comfortable was born in buffalo and was educated in the buffalo school system he was a member of st paul ame zion church graduated from public school 31 fosdick-masten park high school he excelled in baseball track boxing and basketball rev hemphill majored in music in high school and received eight years of voice training he attended livingstone college and hood theo logical seminary in salis bury north carolina where he majored in sociology and minored in history and psychology at hood seminary rev hemphill majored in sys tematic theology he holds a b.a degree from livingstone college a m div degree from hood theological seminary he has done further graduate work at state university at buffalo and alabama state university at montogomery ala bama rev hemphill has pas tored churches in heath spring s c . thomas ville north carolina walls memorial ame church in buffalo and mt zion ame church in montgomery ala pres ently he is pastor and founder of hemphill inter denominational church in buffalo he has taught school in buffalo's board of educa tion system the mont gomery county board of education system and was part-time administrator and a teacher at ecc city campus in buffalo as a minister of st john ame zion church in thomasville n c rev hemphill was also presi dent of the thomasville branch of the naacp in 1956 he led the fight in thomasville to integrate all city public buildings he was transferred to buffalo in 1958 to be come minister of walls memorial ame zion church rev hemphill was elec ted president of the buffalo branch naacp in 1858 and has served either first vice president or a member of the executive board rev hemphill has serv ed as a board member of the black development foundation black busi nessmen development corp president of the minority coalition inc buffalo branch sclc in 1970 president of lafay ette high ptsa president of walls memorial cultur al center inc he is a member of the interdenominational min isters association meth odist fellowship alpha phi alpha fraternity sigma rho sigma honorary fra ternity prince hall . mason f&am one of the original organizers and board member of the community action or ganization rev hemphill organiz ed walls athletic club comprising of baseball basketball track bowling football teams and leisure time recreation programs serving over 500 youth rev hemphill brought opportunity development corp oic to
