increase ssi & social security recipients to see hike by new year hhs secretary otis r bowen m.d has announced that social security and supplemental security income beneficiaries will receive a 1.3 percent increase in benefits beginning with the benefit checks social security beneficiaries receive jan 2nd and ssi recipients receive on dec 31st for social security beneficiaries the average monthly benefit amount for all retired workers will rise from 482 to 488 the maximum federal ssi monthly payment to an individual will rise from 336 to 340 for a couple the maximum federal ssi payment will rise from 504 to 510 social security and ssi checks increase each year based on the rise in the consumer price index for urban wage earners and clerical workers icpi-w from the third quarter of one year through the corresponding period of the next prior to this year the index had to rise by at least 3.0 percent to generate an automatic increase with inflation under control and the possibility of no automatic wen earn this ■year president reagan signed legisla tion oct 21st to ensure that all social security and ssi beneficiaries receive a benefit increase this year the trust funds are estimated to be 2.6 bil lion higher in 1987 because of the automatic increase the 1987 cost of the ssi increase will be about 115 million in addition a number of other changes will also become effective jan ist as a result of automatic-adjustment provisions of the law that are tied to the increase in average wages they include 1 the maximum amount of annual earnings subject to the social security tax will increase from 42,000 to 43,800 2 the maximum amount of earnings that a beneficiary under age 65 may have without losing any social security benefits will increase from 5,760 this year to 6,000 in 1987 3 the corresponding exempt amount for beneficiaries aged 65 through 69 will increase from 7,800 to 8,160 in 1987 4 the amount of earnings required to be credited with church 1184 genesee st the rev l t boyce pastor offici ated rev barbee was born on august 2 1927 in sherrit arkansas but was reared in mississippi he moved to buffalo in june of 1966 where he united with the calvary baptist church he was a faithful and devoted dea con and was a member of the no 1 choir rev barbee was also licensed and ordained by rev boyce and served as pastor of the community baptist church for five years until his health failed rev barbee passed away on saturday oct 18th 1986 in mercy hospital after a long illness his survivors are his loving wife zenobia 11 children 7 girls and 4 sons they are vernal barbee of buffalo hattie miles of clarksdale mississippi alice faye ethel caroline janet and christine barbee all of chicago illinois frank barbee jr of clarksdale miss theodore barbee of lincoln nebraska mar cellus and roderick bar bee of chicago 111 a stepson james johnson of buffalo an aunt janie wellington of memphis term a mother-in-law elsie chester of malone worked for several community organi zations and was a substi tute teacher in buffalo public schools before be coming a caseworker in the erie county social services department where she was employed for 29 years before her retirement in 1976 mrs malone s church activities dated back al most to her baptism at the age of 12 she was church organist for more than a half-century she began playing the organ for the youth choir and sunday school classes and later accompanied the adult choirs and men's chorus during her years as organist she assisted not only first shiloh baptist church but several other churches in the city in 1960 she was elected assistant music director of the baptist empire state convention her survivors are a son richard a three sisters posey carter of baltimore elease boyd and joan keye three brothers edward l griffin of new york louis griffin and herbert grif fin and a granddaughter interment was in ridge lawn cemetery in cheek towaga pall bearers were john daw kins harrison dockery david gore jo seph hicks leon mc mull en jerrell moss james parker and joseph show ell honorary pall bearers were marvin boyd arthur boyd randy boyd marty boyd jerome boyd
