lucas home state rutkowski supports black candidate's gubernatorial bid erie county executive edward j rutkowski would like to see william lucas his counterpart in wayne county michigan become the first elected black governor in the united states in a letter to lucas sent wednesday rutkowski offered his personal support to the michigan county executive's campaign and said he is requesting area religious and commu nity leaders to lend their assistance rutkowski has asked members in tha local black community to encourage their relatives and friends in michigan to vote for lucas a republican told lucas your gubernatorial run demonstrates that we are not just a party of rhetoric but a party that really cares to improve the quality of life for all citizens i am proud he added that a man of your vision and professional skills is leading the way in creating greater opportunities for african-ameri cans at the highest levels of government your victory as our nation first african american governor will be a victory for us all since 1982 republican lucas has been the chief elected official of michigan's largest county before winning the county executive's post he worked with the federal bureau of investigation and was later elected sheriff of wayne county he is seeking to unseat michigan's incumbent governor in the november elections birthday celebration for pastor the members and friends of holy temple church of god in christ 572 clinton st met at kensington place in a banquet celebration of the birthday of their pastor elder lee a spight sr this occasion took place on sat oct western new york will hold a conference and workshops on thurs nov 13th at the holiday inn 620 delaware aye the conference will be i an all-day affair begin ning at 8:30 a.m and will feature workshops on sex ual harassment eeo/aa compliance review the supervisors role in af firmative action and how to develop and assess affirmative action plans there will also be a session covering the his tory and of working in a number of states and attending two accredited trade schools in ohio and the quad cities in lowa rev sherrell said that all through those years away he never forgot his city buffalo and never stopped supporting the cause of the people finan cially he said he never did and never will give up supporting organizations that help helpless people may they be black or while as a plumber a pipefitter and a pipe struc ture welder he said he volunteered his time to help do the plumbing and moving the build half way house from east utica st to glen wood avenue in 1977 and returned in 1985 to do volunteer plumbing work again at a female halfway house on main st rev sherrell said that there are not many people in buffalo who really knew what his ministry was all about because most of his work was in regional areas of the southern tier section of new york both with migrants and with a number of county jails and at attica yet rev sherrell said that he carried out christ mas specials for some five years for some five hun dred children and families and was assisted by the open door church of god in christ along with pastor c gooden and pastor glen wood young all of his programs ended upon his departure from buffalo in 1976 i felt sad about it the rev sherrell said rev sherrell said that he is currently completing his manuscript for a book about a love story of a black preacher who em braced all races of people — both inmates and migrants along with his bold and daring trip behind the iron curtain rev sherrell said that his book and life story will be presented to the motion william robinson has announced that the erie county department of social services is tenta tively scheduled to accept applications for the 1986 jst home energy aaaia tance program heap for persons
