time i gaze upon the many benefits granted me by my brother of the cloth i feel a spiritual presence and thank god that my life has been blessed because i knew rev t j woodyard he was a man of compassion grace and willingness who rendered unto all what is implied in matthew 25 he lived a sermon rather than just preaching it he lovingly gave unto all and stood as a giant before the sins of this world the reverend lit many a candle with which to light the way and the legions he called still stand as monuments to him color was no barrier to this man of god and his spirit shone as a beacon across the rifts of mortal man time may have erased his memory but the good that he did will live for eternity in the hearts and souls of those whom he shepherded he was an enormous spirit possessed with a graceful heart that never turned a soul away it was years ago that my wanderings took me to ebenezer baptist church but it was the will of god that gave me a friend he alone many times was the only one who took the time to care and made the effort to heal each time i gaze upon any of his many gifts i feel the presence of a spirit and gain strength he is with us always in the footsteps of time his are close to those made by the heavenly father he is not famous nor known in the realms of art but he was given by god of a friendly heart time has erased the hurt i felt when he went back home but etched deeply in my soul the kindness of his heart by rev harry a whiteside phd again griffin fools enough people to win at election time by abdullah luqman on the a m buffalo program election eve mayor james griffin denied that his troubles with the common council began early in his first administration when he asked them for a piece of legislation then vetoed it i this denial was not highly unusual nor unexpected during a political campaign but we were surprised that the incident had been forgotten by his opponents we asked the mayor if his troubles with the council did not begin when he asked them for a bill saying that the gas company would have to notify him before they cut off services after people were found to have frozen to death after they passed it he votoed the measure the mayor said that nothing like that ever happened he told us that we did not have our facts correct these are the facts substantiated by two other newspapers of that day — the buffalo evening news and the buffalo courier express from an article public officials blamed in freeze death of woman that appeared in the courier express by michele coffas feb 1 1978 it reads mrs wallace rachel l 72 of 427 adams st was the second person to die from apparent exposure over the weekend on sunday howard yoki cunningham 84 died from exposure in meyer memorial hospital three days after being found in his unheated apartment at 686 broadway his heat had also been shut off — for non-payment of his fuel bills mayor james d griffin received notification from niagara mohawk power corp that electricity will be shut off at the strafford arms hotel the notification is in line with a law which requires utilities to notify the city when shutting off service to a multiple dwelling mayor griffin is proposing a similar state law which would require the same notification when service is cut off in one and two family homes from the front page of the buffalo courier express feb 8 1978 by sally fox entitled mayor must be notified in all cases — council adds homes to law on multiples the buffalo common council tuesday amended the city ordinance to require utilities to notify the mayor before discontinuing fuel service to any occupied dwelling the ordinance sponsored by councilman-at-large gerald j whalen requires utilities to give 15 days written notice to the mayor before discontinuing gas electric or steam service to any occupied dwelling for non-payment of bills mayor griffin's legislative reversal was also covered by george gates in the buffalo evening news feb 8
