University of New York at
John T. Lynch Named Irishman of the Year.
John T. Lynch will be hon¬ored as "Irishman of the Year" at the 154th Annual Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 2, at the Buffalo Irish Center. The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick is Buffalo's oldest Irish Organization.
John is a long time member of the Knights of Equity, Court 5. He has served as Editor, Recording Secretary, Worthy Vice Sir Knight, and Worthy Sir Knight. He is a member of the Fourth Degree, Hall of Tara. He is also a member of the GAAA.
John is a graduate of Canisius High School. He has a BA. in English from the State University of New York at Buffalo and an MS. in Food, past coordinator of the CTC Study Group and past chairman of the WNY Forum, Institute of Certified Travel Agents.
In the community, John was Past Chairman of the Citizens
He has two sons, two grandchildren, Colin Timothy, a daughter, Heather and Cecelia.
Kathleen Frawley Tara Award Recipient
Kathleen Frawley has been selected by the Daughters of Erin to receive the Tara Award. She will be honored at the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 2. Kathleen, who resides in Buffalo, is a graduate of Mt. Mercy Academy. She has sev¬eral brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews. Two of her sisters, Sister Theresa Moore SSJ and Nancy Martin are also Daughters of Erin. She is a Trustee and Eucharistic Minister at St. Theresa's Church and works on several parish committees. She is a member of the adviso¬ry Board for the Franciscan Center. Kathleen retired as a Senior Administrative Assistant for the City of Buffalo and is a Consultant to the Buffalo Water Board. An active member of the Daughters, Kathleen Frawley exemplifies the requirements for the Tara Award, which are, "One who promotes the organization, assists the Knights in all their endeavors, takes part in Catholic Action, fosters Americanism, and pro¬motes Irish Culture." A truly giving person, this testimoni¬al to her is well deserved.
John Patrick Courtney To Lead St. Pat's Parade
The United Irish American Association is happy to announce that John Patrick Courtney has been chosen Grand Marshal of this year's St. Patrick's Day parade. The parade will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2002 at 2 p.m. on Delaware Avenue in down¬town. The theme of this year's parade "God Bless America, Hail to St. Patrick", is dedicated to the memory of the late John Mulvihill, a friend and mentor of Mr. Courtney.
An active member of the United Irish American Association since he was the age of 13, John started by helping his father, the late Thomas V. Courtney line up the parade. He had been an active member of the Parade's Executive Committee since 1993.
John's late father and his mother Eileen T. (O'Connor) Courtney of Hamburg were both born in County Kerry,
in the community, John was
Past Chairman of the Citizens Advisory Council, Dunkirk, New York, Past Treasurer of Tri County Country Club and Past Director of the Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce.
John resides in Williamsville and is a member of the Newmann Center, ECC North Campus where he is a Lector and Eucharistic Minister.
Being Grand Marshal of the parade this year holds a special meaning for John as it is the 40th Anniversary of his father's distinction as Grand Marshal in 1962. His sister, Brigid Anne Knott held the same honor in 1982.
John attended St. Francis High School, Hilbert College and Buffalo State College. He is currently employed at the Town of Hamburg Highway Department. In addition to the UIAA, he is an active member of the Town of Hamburg
Kitchen Coordinator.
Democratic Committee, CSEA Union Local 815 and is a member of St. Mary's of the Lake Parish.
John, Along with his wife of 19 years, the former Kathleen Mallette, reside in Hamburg with their three daughters, Meghan, Katie and Molly.
