Starting Sunday July sth, law enforcement will issue summons for disorderly conduct to violators. Loud car mega-stereos have become a growing problem over the last two years for many Island neighborhoods especially at night when blaring stereos, with pounding base, disturb the peace and keep people awake. On Wednesday in front of town hall, Grand Island Supervisor Peter McMahon, Erie County Sheriff Patrick Gallivan, and Captain Ralph Pratt of the New York Police in conjunction with the Grand Island Police announced action to reduce loud vehicle stereo systems. Also attending was. the town board. the Town Clerk and the Clerk of the Court. And what a way to celebrate — an expansion of services. Ceremonies began with the grand opening of the Art Park Gallery Store. Located on the plaza near the front ticket gates, the store will feature a wide range of specialty items including crafts, books and. artworks. THE PAST AND THE PRESIDENT - The Grand Island Rotary Club recently held an Installation Dinner at the Queenston Heights Restaurant. The night was filled with new beginnings and fun. Be sure to pick up next week's issue of the Island Dispatch for a complete wrap-up on the event. _ — Monday morning rush hour could be a zoo by Christopher Caile Monday morning rush hour traffic heading south off Grand Island could become a zoo. The New York State Thruway Authority has informed Grand Island that on Monday from 4:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane between the Grand Island south bridge and the Youngman. Work will continue Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and if needed Wednesday during the same hours. Similar lane restrictions were instituted two weeks ago. Traffic became so congested that when a young girl was injured on the baseball field at Huth Road School, the Mercy Flight had to be used. With lane restrictions again imposed on Wednesday traffic backed up to the KOA on the 1-90. The Thruway Authority informed the town that they have assigned an official to monitor the situation. If traffic gets backed up more than one mile on the Island the contractor will be informed to remove the lane restrictions until traffic is cleared. Heftka suspends Wednesday night sessions Councilman Mike Heftka who has been holding Wednesday night senior citizen and resident concern nights at town hall is suspending sessions for the summer. They will begin again in September.
