DeGlopper Park honored those Grand Island residents who served their country proud, another Grand Island resident had a tribute of his own to unveil. Longtime resident Andy Rupp unveiled the Veterans Park Memorial calendar, which features beautiful colorful photographs, digitized by Rupp. Those in attendance at the ceremony had the first chance to buy the calendar and donate to a worthy cause. The special calendar sells for $10 with half of the cost going toward the fund to build a Veterans Memorial Wall on Grand Island. For months, committee members have been working hard accumulating donations to erect the wall, which will stand in honor of Grand Island soldiers who fought for various branches during times of war. To date, they have collected a little more than half of the needed $30,000 to finish the project. Rupp, author and creator of the calendar, said that he was looking f into the possibility of a nationwide calendar that would honor all U.S. f Veterans, until Councilman j Michael Heftka brought up the | idea to do a market test and \ help out the Veterans Wall project in Grand Island at the same time. After speaking with Memorial Wall committee members and getting their approval, Rupp was on his way at creating something truly memorable. The front of the calendar features a computerized look at what the memorial in Veterans Park will look like once completed. Absent from the photo are Earl DeGlopper and Jim Sharpe. Grand Island Observes Veterans Day Ceremonies were held yesterday at Charles N. DeGlopper Park to honor those Grand Island residents who served their country during times of war. This year's ceremony was well-attended and a solemn and honorable service for all. After the ceremony, a special reception, featuring refreshments and patriotic music, was held at the VFW Hall for all tho.se who attended the service.
