As pan of the experience, the boys attended Colonial School and learned lessons from their horn books, while the women cooked and prepared the Thanksgiving meal. After enjoying the feast, the students made soap, cross-stitched, played chess and inscribed rheir thoughts down on paper with a quill pen. Members of the class are Giovanna Andolina, Travis Bailey, .fared Billiea. Molly Clingersmith, Chelsea Fulle. Adam Funk, Autumn Kaiser, Ashley Koerntgen, Kristen Laurendi, Lauren McGowan. Amanda Neely, Sara Orsolits. Jeremy Palumbo, Roxanne Rizek, Ethan Sharpe, Theodore Slipko, Shawn Speidel, Talas Syracuse, Nicholas Tomkins. Andrew Wilson. Rotary lends a helping hand by Kelly N. Gast During its last meeting, the Grand Island Rotary Club agreed to sponsor a beautification project at Veronica Connor Middle School by Eagle Scout Nathan Jayme. Jayme came to the Rotary with the idea. The project included the planting of three Crabapple trees in the center courtyard, mixed perennial plants and hardwood mulch along five Hosta perennials. The Rotary Club has sponsored the entire project and The Grand Island Garden Center offered the SNOW CONTEST PAGE 11 plants and trees for the project at a substantially reduced cost. This past Saturday, Nathan Jayme and his family, along with Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Fields, Ken Carter and his family, and Gene Ryshkus battled the weather and successfully planted the new trees and plants. Rotary President Steve Kaplan said that "It was the combined efforts of Nathan Jayme and Gene Ryshkus of the Garden Center that made this project happen."' TREE PLANTING - Despite the rain showers on Saturday morning, these volunteers turned out to kick off the beautification project at the middle school. " Islander performs in 'Three Wishes' Grand Island resident Meaghan Ruocco will be performing in the Greater Buffalo Youth Ballet's annual holiday classic "Three Wishes" on Friday, Dec. 17, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. at Williamsville North High School. "Three Wishes" is the perfect holiday performance for the whole family — ballet dancers, acrobats, and musicians celebrate the season in a lively concert of music and dance. Come and see Ruocco perform and be part of the magic of 'Three Wishes" as Chandu the wizard helps a little girl discover the joys of giving. Excerpts from Tchaikovsky's holiday favorite, The Nutcracker Suite will also be performed. Tickets are available by calling 835-3585.
