Dozens of Islanders, including town officials and veterans, attended the ceremony at high noon at the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United Slates Charles. N. DeGlopper Post 9249. Thc observance began with a prayer and pledge of allegiance by Walter Cowan, of the VFW, followed by remarks by Town Supervisor Peter McMahon and VFW Post Commander Gary Howard. The service, held in memory of those who died in the attack, and those who survivedsurvived on Dec. 7, 1941, ended with the traditional wreath tribute, rifle salute and the lowering of the flag to half staff. After a Pearl Harbor Prayer by VFW member Mike Rogan, those in attendance were invited inside the VFW to enjoy some refreshments. After ihe ceremony. Rogan said the service, which was held for the second time on Grand Island, was to keep the memory of Pearl Harbor fresh in the minds of future generations. ''Veterans won't be around forever." Rogan said. "It's up to the next generation to keep the memory of what they fought for alive." SNOE CONTEST..PAGE 2 Kaegebein third graders support Veterans Memorial Wall Third grade students at Kaegebein Elementary recently raised money and walked nearly two miles to help support the Grand Island Veterans Memorial Wall. Each child obtained at least $1 in sponsorships to walk the distance, resulting in a total of $283.07 donated to the Memorial Committee to help erect the wall which will be located in Veterans Park. Committee Co-chairs Nancy Sanford and Shirley Luther were presented with the check yesterday during a brief ceremony in the Kaegebein cafeteria.
