Gast Grand Island entered the millennium with a new look on New Year's day at Charlotte Sidway School as both old and new Town officials were sworn in. For the first time in Grand Island history, a female judge. Sybil Kennedy, will reside on the bench and the Town Supervisor position has switched to a four year term instead of a two year term. All officials were sworn in by Town Judge Eric Rciniann. Kennedy said that both Rcimann and Priteliard were the guiding lights of her career. Pritchard held the bible for Kennedy as she was sworn in to her newposition.Town Supervisor Peter McMahon who easily won this year's election took the oath of office for the first four year term ever by a Grand Island Supervisor. Re-elected. Town Clerk Nancy Samrany was the first official to be sworn in. Kevin Rustowicz, newly elected Councilman, also took the oath of office as his wife and five children were there supporting him. Ray Dlugokinski, with 33 years of experience in the highway department, was sworn in as the-new Highway Superintendent. He has been the acting Superintendent since Norm Mrkall's retirement in March. Re-instated for a second term was Councilman Dick Crawford, who was also accompanied by many family members including his wife Maria. Invocation and benediction was given by Msgr. Richard M. Cahill, pastor of St. Stephen's. A reception followed closing remarks given by Supervisor McMahon. TOWN CLERK - Nancy Samrany, pictured with husband Joe and many family members, was sworn in first. RE-ELECTED - Anne Crawford holds the bible for her son Dick as he is reinstated for a second term. TOWN JUSTICE - Former Judge Francis Pritehard held the bible for his former Court Clerk Sybil Kennedy as she took her new office. SUPERVISOR - Peter McMahon was sworn in to a new; four year term while wife Mary and grandson Jacob stand by. - HIGHWAY SUPERINTENDENT - Ann Dlugokinski holds the bible for husband Ray as he takes the oath of office. COUNCILMAN - Kevin Rustowicz had his son Michael hold the bible during his inauguration. Grand Island's rising star by Kelly N. Gast Stacy Clark has loved music all her life. She sang along to her favorites on the radio as a child, and now, others are singing along to her own music. At only 19 years old, Clark has already released two albums. Both of them, "Culture" and the recently released "Meanwhile," are selfproduced CDs on the recording label "Ivory Star Records," which shehelpedstart. Clark's music is all of her own original creation. The sophomore in college released "Meanwhile" on December 8, 1999 while attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Honolulu, Hawaii. She moves on 1/ this semester to SUNY Plattsburgh where she plans on earning a degree in business. Clark began writing poetry at the meanwhile... continued on page Hi ..
