The kitchen is located on 1298 Main St. in Buffalo, New York, and is one of the areas busiest. Over 280 hungry patrons were served traditional Thanksgiving fare of turkey with all the fixings. The honor society members participated in all aspects of the event, from food preparation to serving and after meal cleanup. The regular food kitchen staff were very thankful for the help they were afforded and repeatedly commented on how good mannered and helpful the Grand Island students were. Food kiii.h.-ii m-in:it.'C! Before the agenda items were addressed, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Fields made sure to recognize the town of Grand Island and its school system for its success during "Kids Vote." Over the past few years, the Grand Island School District has ranked near the top in participation for "Kids Day" voting. This year was no exception, as the Grand Island School District ranked number one in participation in the Western New York Area. Though the "Kids Vote" success was not on the agenda, Fields wanted to make mention. "It's not on the agenda because I feel it should be recognized during the full celebration, which will be held next month (during the next meeting)," Fields said. Kidvention Three Grand Island High School students were recognized for the representation of Grand Island during Kidvention. They include Gretchen Kiehl, Sara Tanbakuchi and Kari Tondera. Kidvention was a show that was shown live on Channel 4 on the morning of Nov. 2. "They have done one heck of a job," Grand Island High School Principal Dr. James Dempsey said. "Not only presenting the information, but they way they presented it... it was very impressive." When asked how they became involved, Tanbakuchi said, "we were asked if we wanted to do it (by school officials), and we said sure." Tanbakuchi continued, "it was out of 200 schools and they had us present a longer version, and then they choose 12 out of the 200 schools (to participate)." ■ What's New? During the meeting, the board created three position openings. One teacher aide position and two maintenance mechanic positions were approved. The following appointments were granted: - Barbara Russo was appointed as a teacher for the Alternative Education Program for the 2001--2002 year. - Amanda Becker and Ardeth Kasahara were appointed as coadvisors for the S.A.D.D. program at the high school. - Patrick Krawczyk was appointed as a teaching assistant effective Nov. 5, 2001 to Nov. 5, 2004. continued on page 5 B3t f%i»tie Advertising Spot Available Call 773-7676 Week at a Glance Saturday.
