Approximately 30 students sang "Oh Christmas Tree" to the delight of the attendees. 2002-2003 Planning Guide Heading into the meeting, the majority of the 2002-2003 Grand Island High School Planning Guide was finalized. During the meeting, Grand Island High School. Principal Dr. James Dempsey put the finishing touches on the guide as he presented six last-minute changes. The changes were approved by the board (Sue Gill was excused from the meeting), and they are as follows: - Astronomy has been added as a science course and will be taught by Tim Williamson. Each student is now required to take three years of science while maintaining a 65 average. - Math B has been added as a state-mandated course. Course I and Course II have been removed from the curriculum. Pre-Aigebra will be offered to ninth-graders who need more time to complete the three-year sequence. A score of 65 in a math Regents course and three years of math are now required. - Two social studies courses have undergone name changes. "Sociology" replaces "man and society" and "criminal law" replaces "practical law." - "Biology" is now "biology/the: living environment" and "earth science" is now "earth science/the physical setting." . - In addition, guidance tables have been consolidated. - Computer science now has updated course descriptions to reflect any computer language changes. This is the second year that all students must complete the five basic Regents exams with a 65 or above. Special education students who do not achieve a score of 65 or above have the option of taking a Regents Competency Test (RCT).
