During the course of the day, a special presentation was held, in which the aforementioned members of the internship program were proud to hand over the check, knowing it was going to a worthy cause. Faculty Coordinator Bobbie Frisoni and Cheryl Chamberlain worked with student coordinators Masse' and Cole over the past few months to organize efforts to help raise the money. After drawing up a. game plan, the students were hard at work making sure they could help make another's wish come true. Numerous student interns delved into the project by helping raise the money in a wide variety of ways. Students devoted their time by selling stars at area malls and school functions, providing gift wrapping services at Barnes and Nobles, selling candy and donuts, and seeking corporate sponsors. Students that were involved in the efforts included Masse', Cole, Robert Kujawa, Krystle Kasprzak, Terri Ingraham, James Breier, Lauren Mergel, Aimee Anderson, Kelly Knab, Jessica Lundquist, Myndi Tim. Christy Gibney, Amy Forbes, Carly Hudson. Jessica Walsh, Nikki Zito, Lauren Spacone, Kate Mitchell, Anthony Brindisi, Lynn Conschafter, Amanda Kopra, Angela Miller, Jo Anna Goulah, Michelle DelZoppo, Rachael Fraser and Jennifer Breier. Anderson, Katie Neely, Shannon Ellson, Lisa Bagley and Sasha From left, Deanna Cole, Carly Hudson and Kelly Knab were just three of over 30 Grand Island High School student interns who recently helped raised $4,000 for their "Make-A-Wish child" of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Western New York. Cole, Hudson and Knab spent time in front of Things Remembered at the Eastern Hills Mall collecting donations. Boy Scout Troop #630 to host annual 'Spaghetti Dinner' s?'. Three public hearings, which appeared on a town board agenda for the first time were approved within a matter of minutes. A proposal that would allow for a new carpet at Reality Cafe was also approved, but not until it sat on the table for close to five months. The three aforementioned public hearings did not draw a single comment from the attendees. The hearings consisted of the resurfacing of a portion of the duplex area on West Oakfield Road, water system improvements for West Oakfield and a portion of East Oakfield, and the resurfacing of West Oakfield in connection with the water system's improvements. The approval of the carpet for Reality Cafe, which is located within the Nike Base on Whitehaven Road, did receive comment. "I think the kids are going to be pleased, the carpet has been in there for 20 years," said Dolly D'Orazio, a Grand Island resident and . part-time town recreation leader. This is not the first time D'Orazio spoke in favor of the carpet. She has been a constant at meetings, rarely missing a town board gathering, and making sure to mention this issue at the majority of the meetings she has attended over the past few months. Another who has repeatedly stressed the importance of approving this resolution is Councilman Kevin Rustowicz. At the conclusion of every meeting over the past few months, it was evident Rustowicz was frustrated that a vote had not been taken. At the conclusion of Monday's meeting, Rustowicz finally had a reason to be happy. Veterans Park Study Approved Prior to a vote being taken regarding the carpet issue, board members authorized a plan that will allow them to hire the Scaffidi and Moore Architectural Firm to complete a study for an estimated $600,000 pre-engineered building at Veterans Park. The study will cost the town $4,000, however, it will help determine the size of the building an its exact cost. The plan was approved by a 3-2 vote, with Rustowicz and continued on page 15 JSP continued on page IS Ks* MARTY'S TOWING, INC.
